Too late. You invaded their country first. Now you just have to shut up and take it for a couple hundred years. Maybe they'll leave if you give them their historical & cultural treasures back. And maybe they'll just take the crown jewels & pieces of buckingham palace when they go

Step 1 - get rid of country quotas Step 2 - make it a lot easier & just a little cheaper to come legally than it is to be smuggled. Give all legal entries an ID card Step 3 - everyone who joins our military is automatically a citizen Step 4 - every person who denied election results is deported

This. 💯

The reason I've gone more left in recent years is that I previously accepted that we simply couldn't afford decent cheap housing, heavily subsidised transport, a universal basic income, etc. Then in 20 years in politics I saw what we actually could afford. And it's a lot. It's just never for you.

So true

Love this idea

every four years, the richest people should have to relocate to the WORST places. to become rich requires prioritizing self-interest, so let the cost of wealth be enforced prioritization of collective interest 💲 >💚 = 🔥🌎 and/or teach them how brains work to fix their moral alignment with reality

The wealthy have attacked this country twice now. They won't stop until we stop them. We need every avenue. Higher taxes. Prosecutions, fines, anti trust, criminal prosecutions. One doesn't need feds - civil forfeiture. Take vehicles, boats, watches, cash. They MUST feel small & powerless

M Hobart@mhobart.bsky.social

Let’s keep asking about money. Forfeiture and substantial fines and victim compensation funds happen in other contexts, why not here?

I'll take these concerns seriously a couple decades after we ban ludicris mode, ban all car commercials with high speed driving on empty streets and have speed governors on every car, truck & SUV

Mostly overseas. There is no reason marketing, lawyers wouldn't be outcompeted by foreigners working remotely. So if land values have to drop, what policies should we change to accomplish that?

1. End tax exemption on first $500k of capital gains on housing 2. End or limit tax deduction on mortgage interest 3. Tax passive income at higher rates than wages 4. Tax the rich - their free cash flow is distorting all capital asset classes 5. Change from property tax to land value tax

The one option to do this with the least pain is for land values to stay stagnate, while inflation reduces the house/wage ratio. But this would take decades. Justice delayed is justice denied.

To those who think we can make housing affordable by paying people 2x more, we can't do that because we live in a global economy. Increasing pay that much would mean that no US products could compete on price. Not manufacturing, or agriculture, or tourism. Even professional services. It is already

And then loses a job, or incurs medical issues. They likely lose the house and decades of savings. This is not a path to long term wealth for 100 million people. This is not possible unless housing prices fall. Housing prices consist of land + construction. We can nibble at construction costs, but

Land is the vast majority of cost. I bought the house I live in now for $460k, but the 90 yr old structure was only valued at $30k. All the cost was land. Land values need to drop to make housing affordable to the lower 80% and anyone under 40 without family wealth.

1. Pricing out lower income groups Housing currently costs >5x median wages. If housing simply rises at the same rate as wages, housing will never become more affordable & will, in fact, remain the a great risk to wealth destruction if a family puts all savings (20%=1 yr wages) into a single asset

Funny post, and true But I've seen 2 posts from this dude. One knocking both Hilary & Kamala as lousy candidates & this one Who is your preferred candidate? Cause shitting on the ones we got won't get rid of the scourge

Femsplaining is not that common. The women in my life just tell me what they want, or what to do, not how to do it. Whatever that is called, is incredibly common.

i'm on overload lately... so much insanity i can't even lock on to it enough to make a stupid political cartoon about it to help me process. jfc can we just impeach the lot of them? like, all of congress too? seriously, what are we even doing?

A series of unfortunate events from bad laws, bad policy & bad court decisions has created a situation a positive feedback loop for wealth & autocracy. It will not be easy to wrest back control & it will not be possible if Dems keep following norms. If you live this country, fight like you mean it.

It's probably not a coincidence that the base for the opposition shares geography with people who fervently live by the rule, "if you ain't cheating' you ain't trying' Going high isn't going to win an uneven fight. Use their own rules to give power back to the voters & this country will right itself

I guess some people are ignoring the fact that white people were shot because they were resisting. It's not like we just stirred to action because they were white. Action was already being taken before the murders. It would have amped up no matter who was murdered.

JUST IN: According to multiple witnesses, ICE fired into a vehicle in Minneapolis, striking a woman in the face as she tried to leave the area. This is a serious escalation with deadly consequences.

💯 With a bunch of execs as well.

We should send more presidents to prison. In the five years since January 6th, two other democracies both faced their own version of insurrectionists attempting to overturn elections. Both countries handled it better — and more definitively — than we did. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/five-ways-...

Today I watched some plucky kids from Indiana destroy an evil, otherworldly villain that could possess pundits & others in charge into doing great harm. Great show. Meanwhile, what happened in the rose bowl?

Sue Hegseth personally for a lot of money. Easy win & it's a language MAGA understands. Do it in Canada to prove "foreigners" can hold them accountable. Then write a book about copywriter infringement & gently discouraging bullies. You have the greatest possible justice arc in front of you!

🧵This horrific story is being reported all over Latin America, but not the US. Randall Gamboa, a Costa Rican, was deported from the US in such a critical health condition it required an ambulance flight. He then died upon his return to Costa Rica after being detained for 8 months by DHS.

We should be talking more about this shooting. This is the true tragedy. Murder is bad. But if we believe, as Charlie Kirk said, some gun deaths are worth it to have 2nd amendment, then the best we can hope for is that murderers kill n a way that improves society. Yesterday, 1 did. 1 did not

BREAKING: Trump starts LIFTING sanctions on Russian banks. Unbelievable. Just after Putin launched Russia's biggest air assault on Ukrainian civilians, Trump lifts restrictions on some of the Russian banks closest to him. And all done while America sleeps. An Oval Office, Kremlin-compromised.

The stock markets gains today - first trading day after US bombed Iran could mean a couple things - investors are a wildly optimistic group (evidence - some of them thought Trump would be good for the economy) - investors lack imagination (apparently can't conceive of many ways Iran could hit back)

Or - investors really don't value the future I think it's all 3 & anyone buying now is whistling past a graveyard Everything could turn out ok, but what at the chances of that with deeply incompetent people running things
