I’ve gotten to a point where all the theatrical bullshit that comes along with NFL football just makes me tired. Like really, does anybody still get all riled up when Faith Hill Twain Whatever rips through the cheezy-ass intro with fireworks and shit?

My 20yo daughter is in London. Some guy grabbed her ass on the street. She feels grossed out and uncomfortable. This was in broad daylight in one of the biggest cities in the world. Let's imagine how a woman might feel trapped in a room with 7 men. There's nothing consensual about that situation.

A few months ago I switched from a Google Pixel to an iPhone. I've had an iPhone before, but have been on Android phones since 2016ish. I work on a Mac and thought the integration, as well as being on the same device as the rest of my family/friends, would be worthy enough to make the switch. Wrong!

Perhaps the most infuriating is the lack of granularity in control of notifications and how the phone advertises to me. I constantly get notifications from Shop, Amazon, and even Siri tracking my location and offering me "deals" at Safeway, for example. This is the sort of thing that was trivial....

...to turn off on the Pixel. Let's all be clear: Google isn't some sort of angelic company, but neither is Apple. They are intruding on our privacy and selling us shit just as much as Google is. They just do it in sexier packaging with better branding.

The watch is nice, I guess. Better than the Pixel watch, though my only version of that was the first. Though having had both a Pixel and a Garmin at some point, it sure seems like Apple undervalues how much "worth" we get out of workouts.

The other day I tried Apple Maps for navigation, since Google has proven themselves a bunch of cowards (this was before Apple, too, capitulated). It sent me down the wrong route to my friend's house which terminated in a dead-end.

Face ID is a tragic joke. It works 1/3 of the time, otherwise I have to enter my entire pass code. If I want to skip a track in Apple Music, half the time I have to pick the phone up, Face ID fails, then unlock.

Notifications pile up like autumn leaves and are generally useless, as you have to unlock the phone to deal with the source of the notification, and getting to the notification screen is an arcane swipe from the upper-left that works sporadically.

It's got a nice camera. FaceTime is neat. That's about it. In almost every other way, the iPhone is inferior to the Pixel. I'd like to say I can feel the superiority in hardware, but iOS and apps are so glitchy and prone to crash that it doesn't really matter.

We finished "The Bear" last night and it was a fucking triumph. I will die on this hill. Not in a long while (possibly never) have I been as drawn into a show like as with this. If you have ever worked food service, it is a must-watch.
