I'm glad Judge Schiltz is speaking out, but if this is how he feels, why did he take senior status this summer, making yet another lifetime judgeship available for Trump to fill?

🚨An alarm is being sounded for the American public. Sitting federal judges go on the record with the NYT. On threats to democracy by DOJ/administration actions. Includes 90 minute interview with conservative Judge Patrick Schiltz. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/09/17/u...

Impeachment isn’t enough.

Democrats want to impeach Uthmeier, but accountability may rest with the voters Uthmeier, now under fire for his role in the Hope Florida scandal, has previously threatened mayors,… https://floridatrib.org/2026/09/02/democrats-want-to-impeach-uthmeier-but-accountability-may-rest-with-the-voters/

Thanks to whomever on here talked up Sugar. I had passed on it before even though I like Farrell because detective noir didn't interest me. But it's not just that! Phenomenal.

None of these people can be trusted to wield the judicial power of the United States. Not one. All of them should be impeached and removed.

Senator Blumenthal responded: "Your failure to basically speak truth to this committee I think indicates that you will fail to speak truth to power if you are confirmed as a judge on the court of appeals. The rehearsed and regurgitated language that you've given us today, I think, is disqualifying."

Uthmeier is a shameless, unprincipled, theocratic fascist drunk on the power he believes himself to have.

NEW: Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, facing ethics inquiries for misconduct, has threatened to strip state scholarships from Catholic schools unless the Church rewrites its vaccine doctrine. It is an unprecedented attack by an American state on the religious liberty of the Catholic Church.

Ooooooooooo

It's true. Adam Wingard's new A24 movie ONSLAUGHT is a stealth sequel to THE GUEST. Same universe. Same town. Wingard explains, "The idea is that the secret programs we’re seeing going on here are other aspects of the same thing David’s character came from in The Guest."

The sneering contempt!

MSNBC: Clarence Thomas why are you in the Capitol Building? Clarence Thomas: lol @ the mere concept of answering for the way i wield massive government power for 35 years and counting

Apropos a couple decisions this week: I’m still not sold on the idea that there is a presumption of continuity in meaning when constitutional language is carried forward from one constitution to the next. The best justification for public meaning originalism—the one most originalists use— 1/3

is popular sovereignty. How does that work if you’re saying the adoption of a new constitution by one polity at time Y doesn’t update the meaning of a provision originally adopted by a different polity at time X unless there’s some particularly persuasive evidence to rebut the presumption? 2/3

Perhaps the Journal should have talked to lawyers about their experiences, sometimes pretty negative, with reporter-produced transcripts.

If a panel of three judges issues a decision without written opinion, but two judges concur in a written opinion labeled a concurrence, what’s the precedential status of the “concurrence”?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

A sequel to IT FOLLOWS from returning director David Robert Mitchell, THEY FOLLOW is expected to enter production this summer. Maika Monroe & Naomi Ackie starring. In the sequel, the threat is now EVERYWHERE.

A lawyer shouldn't do this to a former client.

BREAKING: Ken Paxton’s own lawyer just endorsed James Talarico: “I defended Ken Paxton for years in the impeachment trial and in state criminal cases. But in my view, I think Ken has lost sight of his core mission, which is to represent the people of Texas.  That’s why I'm supporting you.”

We should have done this in 2021, but it’s still worth doing if we get a trifecta in 2029: Eliminate as many seats on each lower court as there are Trump II appointees, by order of ascending seniority to kick those appointees off, and then pack the lower courts.

patrick mcneil (he/him)@patrickryne.bsky.social

Many of Trump's second-term judicial nominees share his commitment to resegregating American institutions. For that, they are being rewarded with lifetime judgeships (and yes, almost all of them are white). My new @ballsandstrikes.org piece: ballsandstrikes.org/nominations/...
