i kinda hate it how everyone has apparently forgotten that the reason SS, Medicare, etc. are called "entitlements" is to remind people that they are, in fact, entitled to receive them. It expresses an obligation the government has to the people! You can't cut spending people are entitled to!
People who get Social Security and Medicare from the government are not getting "entitlements"—they are getting the money they gave the government back. Unlike when Elon Musk got at least $38 billion from the government in contracts, loans, subsidies, and tax credits over the past two decades.

after covering MTG's extreme transphobia for years, it's disheartening to see anyone on the left side of the aisle say that she deserves anything but our contempt. Yes, people who change their minds should be welcomed, but no, she has not. www.lgbtqnation.com/2025/12/hous...
part of the reason i had the word "capitalism" muted on socials before was because 90% of people have no idea what it means. Yes, local government services, famous examples of capitalism!
My husband, explaining to my 8-year-old why Jaws is an anti-capitalist movie: If the mayor had just listened to the experts and closed the beach instead of trying to make more money, the movie would've been over 5 minutes after the first shark attack.
OK there's this but also there is a little trans girl in WV who wanted to run cross country with her friends and now she'll probably be stopped and 40% of the country probably thinks it was worth it.
i don't think this is the end of things, but if it is and we walk away from this with explicit Iranian authority over the Strait and a bunch of lifted sanctions it will easily be the biggest American strategic failure in our lifetimes

You know what? I'll admit it. The credible threat by a madman to wipe out a nation of 90 million people for basically no reason (presumably using nuclear weapons) successfully distracted me. I am now distracted.
Don’t let the President distract you from his mission of funneling wealth from the bottom to the top.
The way people talk about governments/electeds as if they spring forth fully formed from clams is insane. LA doesn't have a Mamdani bc they didn't elect one.
Mamdani is an absolute nightmare for every other mayor in the United States, because all of the sudden people from everywhere else in the country are realizing how much their governments are simply choosing not to do for them

The idea that there was ever a point where working class households could live comfortably with only the dad working is a fucking lie, a core tenet of fascism and happily repeated by a lot of people who consider themselves leftist or feminist. It’s so wrong that if you say it I think you’re stupid
I only really knew about Bigflo & Oli from their old hit "Dommage" which was so goofy that it was impossible to take seriously. I didn't pay much attention to what they did after but got a notification for this today and they have changed so much, this is really cool. www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3CL...
trump is literally putting tariffs in place over personal drama and openly admitting it. www.joemygod.com/2026/02/trum...
people should get more comfortable with hearing bi people refer to themselves as "gay" or "lesbian" as they sometimes do, just like gay people sometimes call themselves "queer" or "not quite straight." Labels are useful but people don't have to be so literal. www.out.com/gay-music/do...
Related, I think that 90% of the arguments about these terms that I see online would be resolved if people were just like "yeah other people talk different than me sometimes." Here are two well-known pan/bi celebrities calling themselves "gay" because why not. www.vulture.com/2020/03/mile...

if ever one needed evidence that press coverage of protests is an effective tool for protestors, the feds just arrested a journalist for covering a protest in MN.
guys the thing about being a decentralized leaderless network is that there are really no clear leaders to consult. what we have seen, though, is that careful press coverage of minneapolis community networks has massively benefited their cause, harmed ICE, and seemingly not led to anyone being IDed.

These people say they want to live in a high trust society and then fantasize about stealing from people they consider weak.
Miller: Denmark is a tiny country with a tiny economy and a tiny military. They cannot defend Greenland… Under every understanding of law that has existed about territorial control for 500 years, to control a territory you have to be able to defend a territory…
Oh neat headline but guess what? he's retiring so of course he found a backbone now. He's also like "so many Republicans" think the Greenland thing is a terrible idea but why don't they say it publicly? www.rawstory.com/trump-greenl...
This is not what socialism means but the author is American so I guess he's proving his own point.
Americans have no idea what socialism means In the civilized parts of the world it means people have the power to choose to not be screwed over by rapey, greedy corporate thugs. That’s it. That’s all it means
