I promised to share another sneak peek, so I’m sharing the same illustration that Erica did. It’s of the teenagers in the Negro Boys Industrial School. It was a reform school that burned down in Wrightsville, Arkansas in 1959. 21 Black teenagers died because their dormitory was locked.

I grew up going to farmers markets. I love a good Fall Festival. Give me all of the apple cider donuts. If there’s a hayride, I’m there. A pumpkin patch? Count me in. Corn maze? Consider it solved. I illustrated this a few years ago with all of that in mind. 🤎🍁 #illustration

The Academy of Natural Sciences was one of my most FAVORITE museums growing up. I loved it so much that I illustrated a version of it in one of the scenes in All the Greatness in You by @tamekafryerbrown.bsky.social and @mackidsbooks.bsky.social! I’ll miss it. So many great memories. 💜💛✨ #kidlitart

This book was a heavy one to illustrate, but it was also a beautiful experience because I learned more about a few events during the civil rights movement. It’s available to preorder now, but it’s officially coming out on October 6, 2026!
