@wychstreet.bsky.social a question for you: It is close to 1am on a Saturday. You are at home listening to Pulp’s “Different Class”. You hear the line “She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge”. What is the percent chance that, in 30 seconds’s time, you will have a rum and Coca-Cola?

Yes, because when they block you, you can no longer access their profile to block them. Which means they can still choose to see your posts, etc. I have to rummage through my cache, enter their user name manually and go to my profile to block them. On on Threads, block and mute and restrict :P

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

Today, the Canadian PM Carney just gave a speech at Davos, urging the 'middle powers' such as Canada to take a greater role in leadership in the years to come, with America's likely continued isolationism. My approximate reaction, in meme format:

RFK: “Where did all this autism come from? It never existed when I was a kid!” The Who: "That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball!”

RFK: “Where did all this autism come from? It never existed when I was a kid!” “A Christmas Story”, a 1983 movie based on a 1971 memoir about a childhood in the 1930s: “This is my brother Ralphie. He has a ton of sensory issues and behaviors we don’t understand. Every family has a child like him.”

For all my American friends currently aghast at the horrible tacky transformations going on in the White House: once MAGA is gone, I think it would be a fantastic act of international bridge-repair if Canada came down and torched the damn thing again. Fortunately, gilded IKEA trash lights up good.

Headlines like this aren't proof that the sports / gambling legalization connection is failing, it's proof that it's working. Before the wide legalization of sports betting, investigations like this were much harder to conduct and rooting out illegal gambling was far, far harder.

Three cops is two cops too many here. If an arrest was justified (and frankly I’d be suspicious of even that claim lately), an unarmed 50 year old woman who OH YEAH was handicapped by WEARING A FULL BODY PENIS SUIT doesn’t need backup.

Textbook example of 1st Amendment "peaceably assemble", never mind that that's a man of the cloth calling for humanity that they just, you know, shot in the head.

Reverend David Black, other faith leaders, journalists, and protestors have joined a class action lawsuit alleging ICE violated their First Amendment rights during protests outside a detention center. The brutality of this regime is on full display.

Elon Musk unveiling the new X logo at an ICE facility? F’ real though, I just watched The Wall today, and in addition to the usual reasons it was hard to watch (I.e. it’s a jumbled and incoherent mess), the whole In The Flesh -> Run Like Hell -> Waiting For The Works section sat VERY ill in my mind

🎶“I’ve got some bad news for you, sunshine; America’s not well, she stayed back at the hotel, And they sent us along as a surrogate band. We’re going to find out where you voters really stand!” 🎶

I do love the coy infusion of progressive talking points here, but they're quite valid -- the first step to a more fulfilling life is a better life :) and I cannot emphasize enough how much those third places matter. The internet is great. The internet is not a third place.

the political policy cure for “male loneliness” is - more time to hang with the fellas (4 day work week) - more money to spend with the fellas (higher wages) - more things to do with the fellas (taxing the rich and building 3rd spaces)

Falsely suggesting I'm singling out transgender individuals, but otherwise, yes, when KYC-grade human verification is required on social media, it is then and only then the infestation of bots, outrage farms, and vile anonymous trolls will finally happen. Until then, the enshittification continues.
