Now updated to include general election voter registration deadlines! And primary season isn't over yet — registration options are still available for some states.

@npr.org recently updated its guide to U.S. voter registration deadlines to reflect online/in person/mail deadlines for the 2026 primaries. Cheers to @hansilowang.bsky.social, Brent Jones and Ben Swasey for wrangling this. apps.npr.org/voter-regist...

I haven't watched "Survivor" since very early on. But there's a certain joy in projects that combine professional expertise and an intense, focused personal interest. Cheers to @idislikestephen.bsky.social, Clare Lombardo, Connie Hanzhang Jin and everyone who played a role in this.

It's #Survivor50 finale day! To prepare, might I suggest spending all your free time between now and then reading this ludicrously comprehensive, entertaining-if-I-do-say-so-myself 49-season ranking I wrote for NPR? (It'll become a 50-season ranking sometime tomorrow morning.)

It's funny that most of the names I recognize here are b/c they turned up in "The Traitors" (my main reality TV watch). Now reading Stephen's reviews, I have a lot more context about the history/baggage they brought.

Last year, NPR published an investigation into an Israeli strike in Gaza that killed 132 members of the same family: apps.npr.org/gaza-buildin... Survivors made detailed lists of the dead and wounded. NPR journalists, including reporters in Gaza, reconstructed what happened.

apps.npr.orgOne family. One attack. 132 names. A Gaza investigation.More than 51,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's war with Hamas, Gaza health officials say. We reconstructed what happened in one of the deadliest Israeli strikes of the war.

This week NPR published an update, as a crew began to excavate and recover bodies still under the rubble. If you can, first listen to the audio version, hearing the voices of reporter Anas Baba and Abu Naser family members at the scene. www.npr.org/2026/05/06/n...

npr.orgSkeletons in their clothing: Recovering bodies from the rubble in GazaIt was one of the deadliest Israeli strikes of the Gaza war, devastating one extended family. A year and a half later, the survivors find their loved ones' remains.

The workflow behind the scenes: Reporters enter their analysis via a Google Doc (using a custom add-on form to keep the structure consistent), edits happen in the doc, and one person periodically moves edited text to the CMS. There's a ✨ of extra CSS to restyle the blockquote for users of our site.

We've used variations of this approach for years for different stories. Low-fi, but - it's easy to spin up - it reads well - can be easily shared w/ member stations and other content partners via standard CMS tools - the quote vs. analysis distinction is still clear from context even w/o extra CSS

I just realized that Illustrator and Photoshop's versions of the "Save for Web" panel have the Save/Cancel/Done buttons in the same place but in different order. Maybe that's why I always accidentally cancel out of them so often — I mean to click "Save" but click "Done" by mistake.

TIMELINES: 100 days of major Trump admin actions re: DOGE, immigration, tariffs, foreign policy, retribution, civil rights and Signalgate, compiled by Domenico Montanaro @npr.org @heidiglenn.bsky.social. SO MUCH has happened in the past 3 months; it's really something to see it listed out.

npr.orgIn first 100 days, Trump tests limits, creates chaos and turns from alliesFrom foreign policy and tariffs to immigration changes and targeting of DEI, here's a look back at some of the major moves made in the past 100 days of President Trump's second administration.

New project: An Israeli strike on a Gaza apartment building killed 132 members of one family in October 2024. It was one of the deadliest Israeli strikes of the Israel-Hamas war. The few survivors documented the dead via handwritten lists, which they shared with NPR. apps.npr.org/gaza-buildin...

This visual narrative includes a reconstruction of what happened the night of the strike and in the aftermath, the Israeli military's response, a detailed family tree mapping out the extent of the family's loss, satellite imagery and original drone video from their neighborhood.

🌸 Update to this project, just in time for spring: @danielpwwood.bsky.social added support for zip code search and made transition animations sensitive to whether `prefers-reduced-motion` is set.

My team, working with the Climate Desk, made something that's weird and joyful and useful. Repo link and blog post(s) to come. In the meantime, enjoy:

@ximenabustillo.bsky.social did extensive reporting and research for this, and we worked together to boil this complex process down into a series of flowcharts. Thanks as well to to editor Anna Yukhananov, art director @emilybogle.bsky.social, illustrator Ana Galvañ and copy editor Pam Webster.
