Writer, author*, reader, cat lady, paranormal investigator. Sometimes I knit.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 3609:
If ever you feel discouraged, know this. Every day you get up to write is an act of courage. Every word you manage to write is a light against the darkness. You may not see it from where you are now, but it's there. It's shining.
It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

You guys. I'm so tired of AI. So very, very tired. Tired of questioning everything I see, tired of trying to find ways to disable whats pushed on me, tired of finding ways to get around it to protect my art.
I just wish this was all over already.
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 96:
If you write, youโre a writer.
If you ask AI to write for you, no matter how many thousands of pages it slops out on your behalf, youโre not.
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 8260:
Whatever genre you write, read folklore. Folklore exists because at some point, people cared so much about a certain thing that they put it into a story, and passed it down the centuries in order to keep it alive. That deserves attention.
I'm rewatching Signs tonight for the first time since it's release. As someone who is now living in a small town again where there are many corn fields, the atmosphere they created is perfection. It really is that quiet, which really is terrifying.
To the cutie who was working check out at the bookstore yesterday: I am sorry I am terrible at flirting.
QT: Alright you can make like a tree and get outta here.
Me (deadpan, The Most Serious I Have Ever Been): Trees don't move unless you're an Ent.

Woke up this morning to a happy little surprise. My most anxious and aloof and orange boy, Cheeto, had curled up in bed with me at some point. All hail spooky season.
Saw @netflix.com has a new reality show based on Wonka... and then found out they recreated Gene Wilders voice using AI. I have never noped out of anything faster. AI is not art. There really should be a disclaimer on the poster screen. Disappointing. Worst Timeline. #NoAI
I think the most insidious bit is how tiny the disclaimer is, and only shows up after you've gotten about 10 minutes in, and it doesn't SPECIFICALLY say AI, but they definitely did use AI to do it. They partnered with ElevenLabs. Just tell me up front so I know what shows to avoid.
2 days in a row of 900+ words in less than 2 hours. Feeling good about my writing, too.
Working on my radical, unhinged, everything will work out for the best attitude.

The State AGs were on pace to kill the Paramount/Warner Bros by litigation and delay until Gavin Newsom stepped in and turned the tide. Now the Trump loyalist Ellisons will control CNN and HBO. Don't ever, ever forget that Newsom stabbed us in the back

Just because this dude has the mental capacity of a handbag filled with dogshit doesn't mean other people can't figure this stuff out, the "AI" dudes aren't THAT smart, they're just horny accelerationist nerds who don't see what the problem killing off 90% of the population is, they can be stopped
Rick Scott: "With regard to destroying mankind, these companies need to do the right thing on their own. We're not going to get smart enough to regulate them. We're not going to get something done up here."
The first Julia Z adventure, ALL THAT WE SEE OR SEEM, is a Kindle monthly deal. You can grab it in anticipation of her return next year in WHAT BIRDS HAVE VANISHED.
Speaking as a reader (which is why I didn't respond in thread): Goodreads is owned by Amazon, a company I won't support if I can help it. Also they haven't improved it in years, and as far as I know have no plans to. I'd rather support places thst support authors and readers. I use...
Idk if any of those places charge to run giveaways... I am not surprised shamazon is now charging authors to run giveaways. That tracks with their soulless corporate greed.

My local bookstore whenever possible, or I'll order direct from an authors local bookstore if I can get a signed copy.
Book riot because they focus on diverse voices and genres.

Bookshop.org because I can pick which local bookstore to support or put it in a pot for all participating bookstores.
Storygraph because its woman owned and independent, and it integrates with my kobo.
Kobo because I still love the convenience of ebooks and tbh its way better than kindle.

It doesn't look like much now but after a year of not having a cork board I finally got a new one and I'm already feeling more inspired! Bonus: put the map for my current WIP on it for easy reference and my to do items for the week. #amwriting
It has taken me YEARS of trial and error but I think I may have finally perfected my outline process so I can write my first draft in such a way that I don't want to melt my computer and give up on my dreams of being published when I re-read it.
aside from everything else, it's very funny to pretend that hiring "GHOST writers" ever made you, yourself, an author. you are simply describing two types of guys who did not write a book
