📌Pope Leo XIV TODAY: “The world is being ravaged by a handful of tyrants. Blessed are the peacemakers, but woe to those who manipulate religion and the name of God for their own military, economic and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth.” He is NOT backing down.

This brings me back to my favorite Internet moment of all time, that I frequently quote: "The rats are going to hate this announcement. But the rats don't run this city - we do."

Good news for New Yorkers, bad news for rats: all trash will be in rat-proof bins by the end of 2031. No more black bags on the sidewalks — it’s time to put a lid on it.

I wish people would stop fixating on causes and cures for Autism and neurodiversity more broadly. It's time people listen to us, especially Neurodivergent people of color, women and others who are often excluded. Let actually Autistic and Neurodivergent people take the lead. This shouldn't be hard.

Fans of performing arts - what are we meant to do about the Kennedy Center, ethically? It feels that we shouldn't boycott (yet), because 1) these performers are already so under-resourced, 2) most shows through this season were booked years ago, and 3) unlike Amazon, I would hate to see it go under.

Commissioner Slaughter and I just sued to clarify that we're still FTC commissioners. But this is bigger than us. This is about economic stability. If the President can break a 90-year-old Supreme Court ruling to fire us for no reason, he can do it to the Fed, the FDIC and SEC.

The president is trying to fire me. Who does this help? Is it going to help the family struggling to pay for medicine or groceries or rent? Or is it going to help the billionaires behind the president at his inauguration? My interview with @npr.org Morning Edition: www.npr.org/2025/03/20/n...

Commissioners Bedoya and Slaughter worked tirelessly to hold billionaires and massive corporations accountable, so it's no surprise they've been targeted by Trump and Musk. This is yet another gift from Trump to the rich and powerful that profit off of ripping off consumers.

President Trump’s dismissals of Alvaro Bedoya and Rebecca Slaughter leave Republicans alone at the top of an agency meant to be independent of the White House.

I am a commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission. Earlier today, the president attempted to illegally fire me. This is corruption, plain and simple. I will see the president in court. My full statement:

If we can "avoid a government shutdown" by voting for this CR, then why is the entire Department of Education closed today? Why is USAID closed? Why are hundreds of billions in grant contracts frozen? We are already in the shutdown. And your votes DON'T stop it. In fact, they allow it to expand.

So I guess not everyone was reading Anne Frank at age 9 and watching Schindler's List at age 11. I thought that was a more standard experience than it seems it was.

Medicaid is one of the most cost-effective health programs. It costs less per enrollee than private insurance & has lower administrative costs. Besides direct harms to people who lose their coverage, cutting Medicaid will put people out of jobs & close rural + community hospitals.

Oni Blackstock, MD MHS@oniblackstock.bsky.social

Medicaid covers: - 40% of children - 41% of births - 60% of nursing home residents -23% of non-older adults with mental illness ppl - 25% of adults 19-64 yo with disabilities

A reminder that what they're calling "fraud, waste, & abuse" is mostly not that at all. "most of the improper payments are made for eligible health services for people who were eligible for Medicaid; the issue is that proper documentation for the payments is missing." www.cbpp.org/blog/underst...

REPORTER: Can you say unequivocally that down the line, there won't be cuts to Medicaid programs? MIKE JOHNSON: Medicaid is hugely problematic because it has a lot of fraud, waste, and abuse.

It's gratifying to see rowdy town halls across the U.S. Because DC? We're reeling. So many households are grieving, worried about their pensions and health insurance, considering moves, watching their life's work implode, pulling kids out of activities. I'm hearing about suicidal calls for help.

DOGE will touch every American eventually, but not quite like the DC area. The private sector simply cannot absorb the number of displaced workers. I fear for the folks w/o a heaping savings, our small businesses, our local services, our school communities and all the kids caught in the wreckage.

A friend recently said "I'm not going to protest anymore. To what end? We've been out in front against this guy for 10 years and the rest of the country sent him back. Let them come and protest."

New—The Food & Drug Administration (FDA), an agency that falls under RFK Jr.’s purview, just mass fired probationary employees via an email reviewed by me. They’re citing performance issues as the reason, even for employees who had great performance reviews. Don’t know how many people affected yet.

Oh my god. They removed "transgender" from the page about Trans woman Sylvia Rivera's page at the National Park service. "Sylvia Rivera began fighting for gay and _____ rights" WOW.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

The National Park Service has removed "T" and all mention of transgender people from the Stonewall National Monument. Trans women were some of the most influential activists behind the Stonewall movement and what followed. 3 articles of clothing laws were why raids happened. Erasure.

Don’t let them pull the wool over your eyes and call the CFPB “woke and weaponized.” The CFPB fights overdraft and junk fees, goes after lenders that target servicemembers with predatory loans, and has returned $20 billion to Americans. This is a giveaway to scammers & crooks.
