I'm aphantasic and not an artist. But my artistic tastes range from impressionism to non-representational abstract art. If I were an artist, I would aspire to one of these broad genres. I really don't get how cartoon characters qualify as art, but I guess it's just a matter of taste and preference.

Here’s an odd aphantasia effect. I’ve noticed that when I’m typing an infrequently used word, I can’t tell if it’s misspelled until I actually see it typed out… then it becomes obvious that it’s wrong. Any other aphantasics notice this?

Only a few years ago this would have been a headline in a poorly written Sci Fi novel. "The Anthropic CEO says AI company 'cannot in good conscience accede' to Pentagon's demands to allow wider use of its tech and AI for military purposes...." It's this kind of propaganda that SkyNet lives for.

I have aphantasia - whenever I describe an actor or actress to my wife, I have to do it by referebcing the film they were in rather than by physical description.

I feel kind of "guilty" about it. I'm sad that I won't see him again, but I just haven't experienced stages of grief other than the day I learned of his death. Anyone have any advice? My therapist doesn't seem to know anything about SDAM and gave me all the "standard" advice about grief. Thoughts?

If they just want to get rid of it, just put it on some boats in the Caribbean of the coast of Venezuela…

Canada is figuring out what to do with its stockpiles of US alcohol. I suggest they save it, and give it away for free, for the global party coming up soon. www.businessinsider.com/canada-us-al...

I notice a lot of talk by artists about aphantasia. Yet, the only art I see is "comic book" characters (I'm not sure of the correct term...) Are there any aphantasics that do traditional drawing/painting, or is it just illustrators?

Even with all the weather drama at Burning Man this year, I'm still feeling nostalgic. I attended on and off for 17 years, starting in 1996. My last burn was 2019. * sigh *

In what world is this a United States law enforcement officer and not some rogue disavowed special ops villain in a Mission Impossible movie about to put a bag over someone’s head?? This has got to STOP!

I just heard a quote about the commercialization and cultural control that will likely be a consequence of AI: "Reality becomes a premium feature." Brilliant description and, also, terrifying.

Interesting paper on predicting philosophical intuitions and different abnormal modes of thinking (like aphantasia.) Also I learned that the type of aphantasia that has to do with an "internal voice" is called anauralia.

People differ in their capacity for visual imagery This new study finds that this individual difference predicts people’s philosophical intuitions (!). For example, people with a lower capacity for visual imagery have different intuitions about free will
