What feels like the best use ever of my #rstats skills, I made a #shiny app to organise my crochet granny squares 🧶 😂 Patterns are from granny squares academy 1 & 2 by Shelley Husband

Currently in New Caledonia (SPC) where energy security is a big topic. This from @freerangestats.info highlights how exposed the Pacific is. Much of the region relies *heavily* on diesel for electricity, in some cases the entire national grid. Global shocks (eg Iran conflict) hit hard and fast...

Peter Ellis@freerangestats.info

Pacific island countries are *extremely* dependent on oil and gas products - particularly diesel - for electricity generation. Brief blog with #rstats code at freerangestats.info/blog/2026/03... 1/2

I know everyone codes differently, but this is new for me. Good (imo) folder structure: proj_name/ ├ dat/ ├ R/ ├ results/ But they work from R/, and navigate up-across-down back to their data/, e.g., load("../../data/obj.RData") Opinions? I code relative to the project root directory #rstats

I did recently see an echidna swimming in Richmond (Tas) and do know of a lonely wallaby once trapped in the northern end of bribie island but wow a 1km swim from Bribie to the mainland is hectic for a tiny echidna! Came for the political comics and stayed for the animal facts, it’s awesome :)

Big day! Keynote at the Australian Statistics Conference in Perth, talking about my journey and future of stats in the age of AI. Feeling nervous but have my favourite dress on #ASC2025 #stats

OK nothing like proclaiming in a public space and then quickly finding solution 🤪 If anyone else is stuck on this, sf seems to not work with plotly. If you put your coords in as a df, and use geom_path to plot with geom_tile it renders (and saves output correctly with .png) #rstats soln next comment

Ok #rstats #shiny hive mind. When rendering geom_tile to a plotly in shiny, and press the download button the resulting .png is missing the tiles? What gives! Any advice gratefully received (These data are fake!)

I've tried geom_raster... I render using plotlyOutput in the main page....and create output in the server using renderPlotly... Convinced the answer is something super straightforward (as usual!) but I can't work it out. Is this a plotly thing?

It's long past time for state and federal authorities alike to put an end to Stephen Miller's jerkoff fantasy of masked thugs kidnapping people of color off the street with impunity. Yes, there are Americans who want this. But they are a woefully small minority. Why are we still letting it happen?

Chicago Tribune@chicagotribune.com

A Naperville man was hauled away by federal immigration agents Thursday morning as his two sons watched, the older boy begging them not to hurt his father and tearfully asking for a chance to speak to him before they left.

Case_when() really does deserve its own appreciation society #rstats

Nick Tierney@njtierney.bsky.social

Important discussions were had about R function interfaces, we all saw the creation of case_when() and sighed a huge sigh to never need to nest ifelse() forever. Everyone was friendly and trying to help everyone get better. It wasn’t perfect, but there was enough real people to balance out the bad.

It's bizarre. I can think of at least 3 scientific publications that predict (i.e., model) the uncontrolled explosion of deer across Tas. None of them were referred to in the report. weirdddd

Great to be back home after spending a week in Vanuatu teaching #Rstats to these awesome #fisheries managers, a wonderfully productive workshop. One participant was rendering her analysis written in #Quarto to a PowerPoint presentation that she writes annually for catch data in the outer islands!

I’m getting suspicious that when ppl say this: “In speaking with colleagues about this, it has been suggested that…” Actually means “In speaking with ChatGPT about this, it has been suggested that…..” #AI

Delving in to the world of Beaker St science festival. What is your p(doom)? Is AI going to save us, enslave us, or just write all our event descriptions? Even have “the krill” cocktail given my date for the afternoon!

Ok so this C study group I joined a while back is fab. The amount I have learnt about how base-R works (really computers in general) is insane. The saying, the older get the less I know, is apt #rstats contributor.r-project.org/events/c-stu...
