One apolitical rule I've learned to live by: Online or in real life, I picture if someone I just met can speak the phrase "I'm interested in what you have to say" in a normal tone of voice. If they can, that's a great sign. If not, uh-oh. I hope to give the same thing back. Once I adapted this, 1/

A few really shocking moments USA vs Belgium left us all deflated and wondering “why” and “how.” But enough about Gianni Infantino and Jeff Bezos getting their screen time.

I like how the "for senate" watermark was kept. Made it easier to figure intent. ROT13: Guvf jnf na nq sbe Qnivq Creqhr'f snvyrq Frangr pnzcnvta va 2022, jura ur ybfg gb Wba Bffbss. Nzrevpnaf cebonoyl erzrzore ubj Creqhr obhtug naq fbyq pregnva fgbpxf nsgre yrneavat ubj onq PBIVQ zvtug or.

I'm sad they never got to play a Christmas Day game in Mannheim.

I'm researching old NBA teams and I've fallen in love with the Providence Steamrollers. What a great name, what a great logo. Just perfect. (Also, they still have the record for fewest wins in a season with 6)

Here I'm reminded of the wise words of an MTV cartoon philosopher: "Beavis, just because something is cool doesn't mean something else doesn't suck" And just because someone does one thing cool doesn't mean... ...we can't enjoy it and still remember we owe them nothing!

MELONI, to Trump: “.. my popularity is none of your concern. I suggest you focus on yours.”

Still processing the passing of Daniel Naroditsky, 29, American chess grandmaster. He was smart and funny and I learned so much from him, whether he was commentating on PogChamps or the FIDE World Team Championships. I thought I would have many years to learn even more. RIP.

It sucks, on other sites, ppl you have neat stuff in common w/ & thought "no way they're MAGA" turning out to be MAGA. But surprisingly a simple "I'm sorry you share these views" has actually pushed me into doing something I meant to. I thought it'd be a lot tougher or complex to break away.

There's a neat bit where you meet yourself and learn the power of a magic word & endings cohere much better than some of the more random CYoAs. Also one funny ending where you try to fool a faerie queen&get sent back to your own time. Well sort of. And a Canterbury Tales reference I missed as a kid.

Moving to BlueSky from Twitter has been weird. It's reminded me of being free of some people I disliked. Or was I necessarily? I still catch myself going back to twitter, hearing that voice saying "but bluesky is just a huge validation circle." (1/2 good response I hope in next post)

But I wasn't looking for validation, just freedom from regular, for-its-own-sake invalidation. The sort that claims to TRY to help you improve but really just makes you soak needlessly in your mistakes. Twitter trolls never targeted me but I still felt I was mentally sinking just going back. 2/

Always tough to avoid the "oh could I have done more?" trap. Over there? Yes. But at the expense of things that could really help me progress. I don't have to feel guilty or spoiled over-entitled that I want a clean relaxing social media experience. Hope it helps someone else if they need it too.

I have followbacks to catch up on but I am too lazy to vet. (There is a nice pile but not that money.) So in the meantime, enjoy (I guess) this topical and not-too-forced palindrome: Hey! Car, cots, I: kakistocracy. Eh?

Woke up to 25 alerts in my notifications. This is probably unsustainable -- but it struck me. I'd need to buck myself up for potential trolls over there. Here, I felt buoyed enough to go get stuff done. So, yes, good morning all, both new follows and old, from here and there...

it became pretty clear there was a HUGE overlap between anti-Trump types & people who I could see saying it, and another between Trump supporters and people who couldn't. Yes yes personal bias, clear subjectivity and all, but it helped me reevaluate some relationships. Might help you too. /2

So I just reported my first spammer here, who posted nonsensical "greetings." On the one hand, it's good to feel useful. On the other hand, I hope it doesn't become too common an occurrence. I'm hoping the moderation team does better than That Other Place.

You are up to date.
