I really like how committed Earthbound is to the western aspect of it. Not just with the setting, but they went out of their way to just straight up not care about the significant slowdowns caused by the simple inconvenience of having more than 5 sprites on screen at once.

Game dev being pretty accessible is cool. Everyone can make a game now basically, though the problem is precisely that. Most game devs nowadays seem too focused to make the next big thing or make something in whatever genre is trendy with little to no spin on it.
