1/3 While my social media accounts are a great way to connect with Edmontians, it’s important that the conversations remain constructive and respectful so that we can have a community dialogue while protecting safety, privacy and legal obligations.

Small businesses create jobs, bring communities together and keep Edmonton vibrant, day and night. This Small Business Week, thank you to the entrepreneurs and innovators who help our city thrive. I'm committed to making Edmonton a place where businesses can grow and succeed.

Local businesses know their neighbourhoods best. I'm happy to share that Council passed my motion to give Business Improvement Areas more flexibility to invest in their communities, building on the work the City already does to make our main streets more vibrant and welcoming for everyone.

Right now is a moment for us as a community to do the same. Thank you to the first responders and front line workers whose dedication is supporting those affected and their families and loved ones.

Edmontonians always come together in times of need. We support one another, show compassion and step up when our neighbours need us most, and it matters now more than ever.

On behalf of the Edmonton City Council and all Edmontonians, I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are also with the loved ones and first responders who are supporting them during this difficult time.

I have been in contact with the offices of the Premier and Prime Minister, as well as the Mayor of Wainwright, Mayor Bruce Pugh, and have offered Edmonton's unwavering support. The men and women who serve our country consistently give all they can to protect each of us through their service.

My heart goes out to Edmonton and Calgary after this week's tragic road incidents. I extend my deepest condolences to the victims' loved ones and wish a quick recovery to those injured. Thank you to our first responders for your heroic actions in trying to rescue as many people as possible.

As we gather with loved ones and reflect on what we are grateful for, I am reminded of how fortunate I am to call Edmonton home. Every day, I have the privilege of meeting people from all walks of life who make our city a wonderful and vibrant place to live. Happy Thanksgiving, Edmonton! 🍂

Edmonton Startup Week has been bringing our city’s entrepreneurial community together since 2014, with the shared goal of helping start-ups grow. Every day, exceptionally talented and creative Edmontonians are building companies that are tackling some of the world's most complex issues.

Saturday saw Edmontonians come together in grief and healing at the Black Tortoise of the North mural unveiling, and as they honoured Sean Arceta’s legacy as a dancer, father, and social worker. Art is a vital tool for processing grief and underlines why investing in the arts keeps our city strong.

Strong reading and writing skills open doors and help to lay the foundation for a happy and fulfilling life. That’s why I was excited to celebrate Read-In Week and World Teachers’ Day today by joining students across Edmonton as a guest reader.

October is Women’s History Month in Canada! While Edmonton still has work to do, we have made strides toward a more equitable and inclusive city. I am grateful to all those who are inspiring future generations of young women to follow their dreams and stand for their communities.

Today, our city welcomed Prime Minister Mark Carney to Fort Edmonton Park to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. For generations, Edmonton has been a place of abundance, kinship and shared responsibility.

And yet, we also know it holds the weight of painful truths. The Edmonton Residential School was one of at least 26 residential schools across Alberta, more than in any other province or territory. The closure of these schools did not end their legacy of harm.

Today, we honour all those whose lives and families were affected by the residential school system. We must always remember that Edmonton was built on the wisdom and teachings of Indigenous peoples. It is a privilege to have their continued guidance, experience and friendship as our city grows.

Today, we honour all impacted by the residential school system. I encourage Edmontonians to visit the City’s dashboard to track our municipal progress on the calls to action. To those listening & reflecting, thank you. To all for whom today is painful, I hope you are with loved ones 🧡 bit.ly/3VCbAoD

Local leaders know their communities best. That's why Edmonton was proud to host the Alberta Municipalities Convention last week, giving leaders a chance to connect, discuss solutions, and bring forward shared priorities. Read the full blog here: https://bit.ly/3VFTpQN

Today, I attended the 6th Orange Shirt Run & Walk, an event founded in 2021 by Anita Cardinal and Indigenous Runners YEG on the belief that movement is medicine. Seeing so many gather year after year to walk alongside one another shows me that the spirit of reconciliation is alive in our city 🧡

Reconciliation is a verb. It calls us to approach the past with humility, compassion, and a willingness to learn. As we near Sept 30, here are events happening across Edmonton for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Know of another community event? Please share it below.

On Monday, I had the privilege of recognizing September 21–25 as Life Sciences Week in Edmonton. Home to 70% of Alberta’s life sciences companies, Edmonton is a thriving hub for biotechnology and medical innovation, with a sector valuation that has reached $5.2 billion and continues to grow.

Yesterday I joined community members from the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights and the Edmonton Japanese Community Association to commemorate the International Day of Peace. Thank you to both organizations for reminding us of our shared power to build a safer, more peaceful world.

WINGS helps women & children escape family violence through housing, childcare, counselling, job support, financial literacy training & more I was honoured to tour WINGS & stand alongside them as a WINGMAN for their September fundraising campaign. I wish them the best in reaching their $60K goal!

On behalf of the City of Edmonton, we stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Belleville and across Canada following yesterday’s horrific attack. Antisemitism has no place in our communities. Please read my full statement in the attached images.

Serving on community league boards showed me what neighbours can accomplish together. With 150+ leagues across Edmonton, many playgrounds, halls and events exist because of volunteer dedication On Saturday, we recognized Sept 19 as Community League Day, celebrating their contribution to our city

I spent Friday night with the Sudanese Students Association at the UofA, talking with thoughtful, kind, and driven students who left me feeling confident that Edmonton's future is in good hands. The warmth of the Sudanese community is a clear example of the diversity that makes our city thrive!

To Edmonton’s Jewish community and all those observing Yom Kippur, I wish you a meaningful day as you fast, pray and renew your commitment to living with integrity, humility and compassion. I hope that as you gather with family and community, this sacred day brings peaceful reflection and renewal.

Edmonton is a young, fast-growing city on an upward trajectory, and we've been named one of Oxford Economics "2026 Cities to Watch". Our affordability, talent, natural spaces and opportunities continue to make Edmonton a place where people can build a life and a future.

Edmonton didn't become Canada's most affordable major city by accident. Over the past decade, Council streamlined permitting, updated zoning, enabled mixed-use builds, and cut parking minimums. As we grow toward 2 million, affordability ensures Edmonton remains a city where we can all thrive.

This Welcoming Week, we celebrate the newcomers who help Edmonton grow and those who help make our city feel like home. Whether you’ve come from elsewhere in Alberta, across Canada or around the globe: welcome. We’re so happy you’re here.

Since 2015, the Norquest College Indigenous Career Centre has shaped careers across our entire city, building quality of life, resiliency, and a strong sense of belonging for job-seekers. I am grateful to have witnessed the incredible work of staff, partners, alumni, and participants last week.

September is Suicide Prevention Month. On Thursday, I joined Edmontonians for the Bridge of Life Candlelight Walk and Vigil to honour World Suicide Prevention Day, remember lives lost, and support those impacted. If you or a loved one needs support, find resources here: https://bit.ly/4h8AqWl

Shanah Tovah to our Jewish community and everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah. I hope this sacred time offers an opportunity to reflect on the year that has passed, reconnect with one another and look toward the future with hope. L’shanah tovah u’metukah! Wishing you a good and sweet year. 🍯🍎

Today, the Ethiopian community celebrates Enkutatash, the New Year, and a time when bright yellow Adey Abeba flowers mark the beginning of a new season. Though our seasons look different, I hope that the yellow in the fall leaves offer a small reminder of home. 🌼 Happy new year!

On September 11, we pause to honour first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty. My heart goes out to those who carry the grief of this loss. Their courage will never be forgotten. To our first responders: thank you for the sacrifices you make everyday to keep our communities safe.

Today, I met with Minister François-Philippe Champagne to discuss Edmonton’s priorities as we build our next four-year budget, from critical infrastructure and housing to economic growth and safety. Thank you for joining me as we continue the important work of city-building and nation-building.

On UN International Literacy Day, we’re celebrating Edmonton as a city of learners. We were the first Canadian city to join UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities, and with 8 post-secondary institutions and 21 public library locations, we know firsthand how learning makes our city stronger 📚

This Labour Day, I want to recognize the dedication of workers across Edmonton, including the City employees who work around the clock to keep our city safe, deliver the services we rely on and make Edmonton a great place to live. Thank you for all that you do!
