I'm glad that in my British Columbia election riding the NDP won. Not a huge consolation, but a little. And at least it wasn't a 2002 style bloodbath. Plus in theory the feds could step in of BC tries to violate the Charter of Rights & Freedoms too much. Still going to be a bumpy ride though.

I just checked and the BC Conservatives guy who claimed that First Nations people should be conquered was one of the people elected (Juan de Fuca-Malahat). I won't dignify him by naming him but you can easily find his name in a search.

An important lesson for the BC NDP Party that can apply elsewhere is, if your opponent is Popeye and he's on life support, don't feed him spinach. The British Columbia Conservatives were in a bad spot and may have died off. Now they have a majority.

Feeling ashamed about living in BC at the moment. Strong parallels with the 2024 US election where too many people saw the incumbent party as unpalatable and voted 3rd party and let the far right conspiracy party in.

Unfortunately despite this being satire there's some truth to this. Serious miscalculation to call an election while already fairly unpopular and in the middle of municipal elections.

Possibly unpopular take: Intent does matter if someone says something hurtful or prejudicial. Someone who says something without intending harm should be treated differently than someone who's deliberately malicious. I'm on the spectrum so I say this as someone who has experienced unintentional hurt
