Be wary of those who admire self-centered or narcissistic qualities, for those are the traits they're cultivating in themselves. When people applaud the ruthless and manipulative out of insecurity, believe them. It's a direct preview of how they will treat you.

Out at lunch today, I overheard a guy at the next table tell his wife that it’s ICE’s “God-given right” to kill migrants at will. Hate to say it, folks, but this kind of casual, out-loud brutality has become too common. It’s a reminder that evil isn’t always dramatic, it can be unbearably mundane.

Trump just pardoned a cocaine-trafficking ex-president of Honduras who took $1M cash from El Chapo, this as we send carrier strike groups to Venezuela “to fight cartels.” This clearly isn’t about drugs. The core issue is oil for AI watts. Thread 🧵

Venezuela's economy was gutted years ago. What’s left is the carcass, and the U.S. is coming back for one last strip-mine before the global energy descent makes expeditions like this impossible. 6\

The real question is, do we raid third-world nations one final time to keep our data centers humming, or do we finally admit the age of exponential growth is hitting hard physical limits? 7\

History shows that nations under such pressure turn to military action to secure new sources of oil, from Japan before WW2 to our various interventions in the Middle East and Latin America. So we're about to dust off gunboat diplomacy in our own hemisphere for oil resources 4\

The effects will resonate throughout the region. Cuba and Nicaragua will lose their subsidized energy, thus collapsing their economies, which will lead to coups in both places. War will also trigger new migrant crises. 5\

Venezuela sits on 300 billion barrels of oil, the largest proven reserves on Earth. Our data centers will need another 50–100 GW over the next 5–8 years just to keep training the next generation of models. Nuclear plants will take a decade to start up. 2\

We've cornered the global market on chips, but without energy they can't be powered. This is why AI has bubble characteristics. Its growth curve is physically impossible without a massive new energy source. In steps Venezuelan oil. 3\

This isn’t just a Trump scandal. It really exposes the utter depravity and abusive tendencies of many elites. It’s a culture of coverups, entitlement and enabling. These webs of protection that shields power from consequence need to come down.

Interesting email here from Elisa New, Harvard professor and wife to Larry Summers, to Epstein, reflecting on Lolita. "...it's about a man whose life is stamped forever by his impression of a young girl."

@mariaprh.bsky.social — More evidence that they are attempting a demolition of the global economy.

Fed source to me: “It’s like a bank heist and the bank is America. Not really being hyperbolic to say control of those systems would allow an extremely fast collapse of the economy. Imagine it’s a plumbing system and someone takes a sledgehammer to the central pipe.”

Of course! Let’s blame minorities and stoke more racist hatred. It’s a useful distraction away from the fact that he fired several key aviation safety officials before this crash, leaving those positions unfilled. Expect more accidents like this moving forward due to lack of oversight.

Low rates (below 3-4%) do more damage to the economy than its main goal of increasing asset prices every year. 10% is too high, but 4% is fine -- good for savers and 80% of the population. Anything lower only serves to benefit speculators and private equity, and their asset stripping activities.

BREAKING: The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady and gave little insight into when further reductions in borrowing costs may occur as inflation remains above target, growth continues, and the unemployment rate is low. Follow our live coverage: reut.rs/4glMAsa

Triggering an economic depression to own the libs. Gov’t employment is not inefficient, it literally holds the country and the economy together. This is true for every nation that has ever existed. It provides services to the public, not for profit. These people will find out the hard way.

And there are reactionary theocrats like this being installed all over the federal bureaucracy.

Adam Smith@asmith83.bsky.social

The federal government's new top HR attorney has said "Consent is probably modern society’s most pernicious fetish" and "Slaves owe us reparations," according to a new report from @pogo.org. www.pogo.org/investigatio...

This will backfire. Why should the U.S. pay more for the most advanced technology in the world? This will be a massive blow to American tech companies, hurt national security, slow down the pace of scientific research & development, and raise costs for consumers.

One of the central problems that America has is that we aren’t in the leading edge of innovation anymore. We’re more interested in financialization and rent-seeking instead of building useful products that are efficient and cost-effective. That’s the back story of today’s market crash.

They seem intent on gambling away our entire reserve currency status on short term tough guy posturing. What happens when other countries get tired of our shit and reduce trade with us? Get ready for hyperstagflation and perhaps a major financial crisis.

It's Official: Trump is raising a MIGHTY new tax on roses with his 25% tariff in retaliation for Colombia refusing to cooperate with a pair of his military deportation flights. Happy Valentine's Day!

Assume that a tariff-only revenue structure really does result in the revitalization of industry and a drop in imported goods, that would mean the complete evisceration of our tax base. This will leave our gov’t with no money to do anything. It would be catastrophic for our economy.

History offers us a guidebook as to what to expect moving forward. Too few heeded the warning signs and now we will have to live through it.

This poster is from the U.S. Holocaust Museum. Download and spread this image. We have to recognize these signs before it's too late.

A huge mass of people have become politically aware before they became self-aware thanks to social media. They think in terms of sound bites, not connected to reality and therefore are easily manipulated by bad actors.

Instead of telling people exactly what we know, what we don’t know, and how we intend to find out what we don’t know, the new administration seeks to cover up public health threats. Not a good augur for what’s to come.

This basically is a scheme to corruptly make the Bitcoin market more liquid by getting the U.S. government to subsidize it, with no obvious benefits to the public and a great risk that the we will be stuck with illiquid, volatile, and useless digital assets, while early investor cash out.

“This is an enormous heist. They’re just backing the truck up to the government in front of all of us. A massive bailout to the crypto world,” says @chrislhayes.bsky.social on the GOP crypto bill.

Their goal is to intimidate journalists from reporting the news. Big media outlets since the campaign have been pulling punches in their coverage of Trump because they have threatened them with litigation. This is how the media climate looks like in an authoritarian order.

Today, #KashPatel sent a letter to my counsel @markzaidesq.bsky.social threatening to sue & demanding I retract my MSNBC comments on his unfitness to serve as FBI Director. This follows his threats against media & political opponents, showing how he might act if confirmed. I stand by my statements.

Welcome to oligarchy, Russian style. This is how he will consolidate control of the country at the elite level. Corporations will have no choice but to cooperate with Trump or face state sanction.

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

Trump will not deport migrants working for the companies of his friends and donors, and he will grant tariff exemptions for the companies of his friends and donors. Watch.

Information is power in any autocratic state. Oligarchs aligned with Trump will buy up every major newspaper, cable network and social media outlet, with the goal of neutering a critical press, while manipulating social media algorithms to flood the zone with their propaganda.

The definition of insanity is doing the same failed thing over and over again and expecting a different result. When Democrats were on the attack against Project 2025, their political prospects improved. When they pivoted away from that, they fell behind.

Rachel Bitecofer@rachelbitecofer.bsky.social

Dear Future Forward donors, 4 years ago I met with some of you and told you we needed a war machine to take on the Rs propaganda, focused on napalming Trump/Rs with negative ads and on message distribution, not testing. Instead you spent A BILLION $s on positive ads. 🙄

I’m self-employed and on an Obamacare PPO policy. Fully expect to pay more than triple for health care thanks to GOP plans to defund the exchanges. Elections have consequences…

Grant Stern@grantstern.bsky.social

When Trump quickly and illegally defunds the ACA without Congress acting, I'm going to laugh because his own voters will beat the brunt of his cruelty.

The biggest risk from Trump and his appointments comes from their sheer stupidity and desire to break institutions without realizing the implications. It isn't just their corruption. No doubt China & Russia are licking their chops at the prospects of this.

You are up to date.
