Great new video by Jonas Tyroller where he turned Steam into a guessing game where you try to predict how well games sold based only on their store page. It's like deliberate practice for marketing. You make predictions, get instant feedback, and calibrate your instincts.

I learned my lesson and asked for permission first this time. Thanks to the mods of /r/eagles for letting me post! Working out too: setting a new site traffic record of 17 visitors in last 30 minutes (previous high was 8)

I'm not able to directly attribute traffic to the Reddit post (I guess I need to include utm link parameters in my links?), but I did see a spike of 70 "direct" traffic first users on the 5th which is probably mostly Reddit.

🏈 Just launched ImperialismMap.com for the new college football season! 🏈 Arizona 🐱 leads with 3 territories after beating Hawai'i 🌈, who had already claimed 2 territories from their Week 0 win over Stanford 🌲.

Weird reoccurring bug with Claude Sonnet 4 in VSCode Copilot Ask Mode where it refuses to help because it thinks it "can only help with creating directory structures for projects".

More games and less teams compared to football means that eventually the whole map consolidated to one team. Happened on March 27th when the Bulls beat the Lakers. Not sure if I should develop a new way to handle this, or if it's just part of the fun.

Could build a Potemkin social media site to reinforce learning in the other direction. When my posts exude virtue, a sycophantic symphony of a million AIs rings out, "So true king!". When I self-Flanderize, silence.

Clay Shirky's writing on Cognitive Surplus is more relevant than ever. New technology creates free time, but society initially wastes it on "cognitive heat sinks" - gin during industrialization, sitcoms in the postwar era, and social media today.

Shirky's guess: "Someone working alone, with really cheap tools, has a reasonable hope of carving out enough of the cognitive surplus, enough of the desire to participate, enough of the collective goodwill of the citizens, to create a resource you couldn't have imagined existing"

It's not until society "started thinking of this as a vast civic surplus" that these changes "stopped seeming like a crisis and started seeming like an asset." The potential: "In the U.S. alone ... 2,000 Wikipedia [sized] projects a year spent watching television."
