Always great to see one of the “super league” breakaway proposers being embarrassed in the most humiliating way. Absolutely lovely stuff.

Can’t be a more tiresome thing in politics than performative outrage about trips abroad. Yes, the primary focus should always be the constituency, but I also want my MP/MSP/Councillor to be taking an active interest in world events, whether showing solidarity or learning from other cities etc.

Worth noting that Andy Burnham’s closer ties with Europe from outside of the EU and nod towards freedom of movement puts a bit of a pin in the “checkpoints and armed guards at Gretna” stuff for as long as he’s in government. Simply wouldn’t be credible to pretend otherwise.

I’d wager good money that they haven’t even thought about this within the wider context because, well….

Quite simply cannot beat sitting on your arse, wearing the shittest leisurewear you own, and watching sixty-three games of football, back to back, on a Sunday.

Green Party of England and Wales are truly the worst in the business when it comes to “choose your battles.”

The Kelvingrove thing is silly because it gives the worst commentators ammo for their terrible narratives.

Chameleons at SWG3 last night. Easy to take for granted how lucky we are for music and venues in Glasgow.

Labour’s decision to approve Jackdaw is climate vandalism. It will make the UK even more dependent on gas despite its wildly fluctuating prices in the global market. That will do absolutely nothing to lower household energy bills and it is dishonest to pretend that it will.

A decade full of incredible albums, but this one is certainly up there.

Ach, who needs a functioning planet anyway?

The Jackdaw gas field off the coast of Aberdeen will be formally approved tomorrow morning, the Record understands.

Going to see goth adjacent post punkers Chameleons at SWG3 tonight. Mel C has been moved from the Barras to a different room at the same venue. I’m one wrong door away from a very different evening than the one I’m anticipating.

Football coverage was worth it alone. The hollowing out of every single facet of public and cultural life continues apace.

BREAKING: BBC Scotland will close in spring 2027 as part of cost-cutting measures, the corporation has announced

I can see why Burnham is the subject of jokes about some of his interventions, but it might not be the daftest tactic to meet the public where they are in everyday annoyances and inconveniences.

If you jump ship to another party, you should obviously either be triggering a by-election or stepping aside, regardless of party. The only excuse would be some sort of major policy shift that goes against what you stood to be elected on.

I agree that the SNP have been rank on local government funding, but you can’t have a serious conversation about why certain things have or haven’t happened without discussing austerity from the very top. Most of the entire fabric of society has been in decline since 2008. It has never recovered.

Paul Sweeney@paulsweeney.bsky.social

The decline of Glasgow's city centre isn’t inevitable, it’s the result of SNP cuts that have left our council stretched to breaking point. We need to restore Glasgow’s budget, invest in frontline services, and get Glasgow cleaned up.

Just cannot see a world in which the Greens tank that badly. Don’t see the SNP overturning them in either Glasgow Southside or Edinburgh Central.

Later than I thought.

When we having the first Reform MSP being suspended, quitting to be an independent or joining Restore? I’m going for early July.

“The First Secretary.” Finger on the pulse, Andrew.

Chris McCall@dennynews.bsky.social

I asked Andy Burnham if he would categorically rule out an IndyRef2 taking place during his premiership. This was the PM’s response.

The soft language around “settlers” and violence is almost fucking dystopian. Any other situation and it’s “terrorists” or “extremists.”

Not been able to stop thinking about this since I heard. Met her after knowing her from posting online and can only say she was as nice and as sound, if not even more, as you think someone would be in person. Travel well, pal.

We are shocked and saddened to hear the news of @sinead1988.bsky.social passing. Heart felt condolences to her family and friends. 💔

It would be an outcome I’d enjoy, but I just cannae see it. Westminster elections, unfortunately, feel like the Scottish public have gone back to the old “vote Labour to stop…” Burnham will be a much tougher proposition than Starmer as well, whatever you think of him.

It’s running away from us, lads.

The sun will rise in #Glasgow #Scotland tomorrow at 7:45, 122 seconds later than the day before. It will set at 18:20, 150 seconds earlier than the day before.

Usual suspects and, indeed, a few who should know better, are losing their shit about Q Manivannan running to be St Andrews rector purely because of who they are. No other reason. It’s a largely ceremonial role and this is not new.

I honestly have no issue with this and think it’s a pretty innovative way of thinking. Comms and engagement come in many different forms. There are folk who think “work” must always be grey, dreary and chained to a desk. Is it always effective and the best use of resource, though? Absolutely not.

Shetland MSP Hannah Mary Goodlad has defended her constituency office recruiting an artist for a new temporary role – saying she wants to make “politics accessible to all”. shet.news/qneyt

Michael Stewart and Rory Hamilton doing rugby banter during Aberdeen v St Johnstone. Suspend them immediately.

Duke of Wellington, as tradition, is fair enough. The coneification of the rest of Glasgow’s public realm must cease, though. Chronically shite patter.

Btw, Polanski, pictured on TV, standing smiling and making small talk with someone in a Restore rosette tells you the guy has fuck all political instincts. You do not even acknowledge the existence of these people unless you’re calling them out. Fuck being personally pleasant to them.

Think Burnham was always going to get enough benefit of the doubt from left of centre voters in Holborn and St Pancras to win, but the Greens carrying on that age old left tradition of needlessly getting into a scrap with themselves aided Labour. It should certainly have been closer.

I’m forty years old, with two wrecked knees, and had a few pints, and I swear to you I’m getting down a a long range shot quicker than Angus Gunn. Rancid.
