46 years after buying “Searching for the young soul rebels” at 13 years old, everything has come full circle now, watching one of music’s ultimate mavericks, Kevin Rowland broadly smiling beneath a video image of the scowling, sullen , surly and serious Kevin Rowland from 1980. A glorious night.

Another new entry into the Marrvel Universe. The Age of Everything is likely Marr’s high-water mark. The album flows song to song with effortless beauty, sounding more direct, personal and energised than ever. Marr’s iconic fretwork still sparkles, driven by a propulsive rhythm and grooves.

What a difference a year makes, this time last year me auld man nicked me pint, because it was his Birthday 🤣 Different birthday celebration today , alas. A moment may last seconds , but the memories last forever. Forever Watson, we still do things differently here ❤️

Eva Marie Saint has died at the age of 102. Her performances overshadowed much of her leading men of the 1950s and 1960s, was a muse to Hitchcock, and won the Oscar for her debut in Kazan’s "On the Waterfront" (1954). Another piece of Hollywood's golden age gone.

Blondie and The Bunnymen, with the late Blondie drummer Clem Burke posthumously driving 10 out of the 11 tracks with energetic percussion. “Apples For Isaac “is the sound of a band not trapped by history . It sounds like Echo & the Bunnymen, but importantly, it sounds like Echo & the Bunnymen now

On this day in 1987, The Smiths released their fourth and final album “Strangeways here we come”. The cover shows the face of actor Richard Davalos in a scene from the 1955 film East Of Eden . In the original photo, Davalos is looking at actor James Dean

Remembering Middlesbrough-born football manager Brian Clough, who died on this day 2004. ‘Rome wasn't built in a day, but I wasn't on that particular job.'

Rewinding a Clockwork Orange back to 1990, for the RSC’s Theatre production of Burgess’s seminal novel starring Phil Daniels as Alex. Renamed as oddly “A Clockwork Orange 2004” and described with as a “play with music”, the electronic score composed by Bono and The Edge.

Yayoi Kusama has been one of the most celebrated, influential, and revolutionary figures in global contemporary art. A visionary who transformed her hallucinations and obsession with the repetitive into an unmistakable and universal visual language. She passed away on August 14. Rest in Paint.

This photo was taken at the London underground in 1981 by Herbie Yamaguchi. He spotted Joe Strummer sitting in the tube, and worried about a possible angry reaction from Joe, he asked politely “ May I take a picture of you?” Joe replied “You should take pictures of whatever you want to, that's punk

Thursday Special(s). An energetic, emotionally charged sonic document and a fitting swan song for the late Terry Hall. The themes are as important today as 40 years ago. A monumental celebration of the legendary 2-Tone icons and acts as a fitting posthumous tribute to the late, great Terry Hall

BBC2’s gift to insomniacs tonight is a double bill of Gene Hackman crime classic’s. Despite viewing The French Connection multiple times in my lifetime, I’ve only just realised that it’s The Three Degrees in the nightclub scene covering Jimmy Webb’s “Everybody gets to go to the moon” in a top cameo.

Sometimes I think about how Michael Gove was able to dismiss the Tories £ 10 billion PPE waste & industrial scale corruption as an ‘ honest ‘ error & UK media said ‘ Oh that sounds credible ‘ 🙄 & the story disappeared after 2 days .

35 years ago today, the sun shone brightly at Heaton Park, but not as brightly as the bands onstage. The whole weekend of Cities in the park was special but Factory Sunday was especially magical. Although this post may make me feel old, I’m pleased I was old enough to be there. Rave on Kidz.
