After reading about Brazil's use of social media yesterday, I'm done complaining about people who bring over X posts to mock them. I'm just going to block anyone whose raison d'etre is replatforming assholes here, no matter their intention. We dont need see them being evil to know they're evil!

This sounds like a very good day for Toad. He was probably worried that he would do every one of these things.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Richard “Levelord” Gray. From his legendary work on Duke Nukem 3D to the countless players and developers he inspired, Richard leaves behind a lasting legacy. Rest in peace, Levelord.

Congratulations to Sen. Schmitt for making me pay any attention to the hearings today. Hahahaha! Good job, dummy!

A phenomenal moment in the Senate. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta. Smith denies it. Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury. Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland. WATCH IN FULL, UNINTERRUPTED

We need a plumber, so my wife sent mr three online recommendations. I picked the one that wasn't made with AI. Why would I trust you with my home if you are going to cut corners like that?

As a card carrying gen-xer, I am so tired of my cohort reacting to being overlooked for so long by being the absolute worst assholes in the world. We were better off being ignored than whatever this is.

Started up 007 First Light today and I was immediately captivated by it. It's everything I want from a Bond game and the intro sequence into the title sequence is perfection. I was in love before I even got to the much discussed interactive montage. I can't wait to see it to the end.

Politicians are always saying that they are doing terrible things "for the choldren" that kids don't want. This is not one of those times. 😅

Today, I signed an Executive Order temporarily repealing bedtimes in the City of New York so that kids of all ages can watch our team in the NBA Finals. As Mayor, you’re forced to make many difficult decisions. This was not one of them. Go Knicks.

I guess I'm learning how to play The Witcher III again.

Medallion's humming... that can only mean one thing! It's time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past! ⚔️

And people need to learn to be normal about people not liking the latest critically beloved new game. It goes both ways. Whatever it is, I haven't played it, so I have no horse in this race. I'm still working through TotK.

You know that thing where you leave a piece over night to work on it the next day with fresh eyes, but when you come back it looks like ass? Yeah, that's me today. 😭

Art journey time! It has been 16 days since my last drawing. (why does this sound like a confession?) I finally decided to get out of my own way and put pencil to paper. The warmup was a bust, but my second, a reproduction a manga character, was a lot better. Oh, I'm rusty! My hand is so shaky!

I have to say, Marathon is 100% more fun with the free kits. I only take out a build when my vault gets full and I always lose it before the first exfil goes up.

The art journey continues! I have run aground on my Proko course's next assignment, a master line art study. Since I skipped a lot of the formative experience of drawing favorite characters, I have decided to dig into a long time favorite, Shirow Masamune. His manga work only because OMG.

Two things: 1) You can tell this guy doesn't make his money from the algorithm. Easy to talk when you have no skin in the game. 2) Developing a new way of speech to circumvent their oppressors is the most punk thing to do! It's crazy seeing online people so stoggy and dismayed by a language shift.

"Unalive" "grape" "seggs" This has got to stop. Do people hear themselves? Its like talking to a particularly sensitive toddler. We can't remove serious words from our language just because we're afraid some fickle algorithm will show our posts to less people

Probably Robocop 2. I spent the entire movie in a perpetual state of tension because there is no title card until the very end of the film. This was years before titles running at the end became de rigueur. I was too young for that kind of change.

fun question: what’s the maddest you’ve ever been leaving a movie theater? not necessarily worst movie you’ve seen, but the one that just pissed you off the most. mine is Batman v Superman

AI gets the whole problem backwards. I want technology to let me work less so that I can be more creative, I don't want it to do the creativity so that i can work harder. What a miserable life that would be.

Art journey time. I decided to just draw something and ended up with this. I need to dive into anatomy soon so that I don't embarrass myself. And if I knew I was going to finish this, I wouldn't have drawn at an angle. But! Lines are going about where I want so that's progress!

Art throwback day! I found a school project I made when I was five. (Still coming to grips with the fact that I was in kindergarten in the 70s.) Here we have a brown bear, clearly modeled on a stuffed animal, drawn in brown crayon. This book is the earliest proof that I once enjoyed drawing.

Still too negative from me, so it's art time again. I drew this today after watching too many Akihito Yoshitomi videos. It's probably the favorite thing I've done so far. But even better, I can see several things that I want to improve. That means I have concrete learning goals now. Success!

While we're at it, is following Ahihito Yoshitomi videos an art phase that many artists go through, like an inevitable SamDoesArts phase? And second, why does scanning my art and looking at it on my phone make the flaws stand out more?

If you want to stop people from using cliched and overused words, I say go for it. Throw out "immersive" too. Reviewers rely on too many crutch words. But saying an emphasizing word is being used inaccurately is some prescriptivist bullshit. Language is mutable. Just ask "literally."

I'll bang this drum till the day I die. I've said it before and I'll say it again Using addictive as a descriptor for a video game is lazy and almost entirely inaccurate to the point you're trying to get across. Balatro is not destroying the life of you and your loved ones, you just like the game

18 days since I posted proof that I'm actually trying to learn art? I promise I haven't given up. Here is a thoroughly embarrassing, sausage-fingered rendition of a hand doing that thwipy thing. I really need to work harder so that I can post less embarrassing art.

While I'm desperately trying to maintain my sanity, let's talk about pencil leads. When I started this return to learning art, I started with a mechanical pencil. Love mechanical pencils, but I was having so much trouble controlling my line weights. Everything was a think, bold line. (1/3)

So based on the suggestion in the Proko course I'm following, I got a 2mm lead holder. And it's really neat. Fun to draw with and allowed for more variation. BUT! I was still having trouble laying down light enough lines. Turns out a HB lead can get pretty dark under my heavy hand. (2/3)

So I bit the bullet and bought a pack of 4H leads. The difference is night and day. I can draw confinently and not worry about leaving a dark scar across the page. So while I agree that all you need is a pencil and paper to make art, the right tool really can help you get out of your own way. (3/3)

The fact that big companies have been all in on AI for game dev, only for AI exuberance to bite them on the ass, is a chef's kiss moment.
