Peak Seattle: After playing two hours of pickleball at North Seattle College gym, I dropped my completed paper ballot in the collection box in the college parking lot, drove home in an EV, then had a fish taco and a West Coast IPA. I love Seattle and Washington State.

Memory eternal.

Defenders Day is celebrated in Ukraine today. Ukraine exists and remains independent solely because there are men and women who defend her. They are concrete names, fates, people. Glory to all who defend Ukraine. Eternal memory to fallen Heroes and Heroines.

Sitting here Sunday morning with my coffee and loving my spouse a lot. He drank his coffee black so that I could have the last bit of the half and half. I realized that was a very, very Connor thing for him to do. (Connor's one of the heroes in my new release CHECKING OUT THE LIBRARIAN).

My fall watercolor class with @willowheath.bsky.social started yesterday! These bottles are almost finished, just need darker details on the lip and the bottom of the green one. Watercolors are the perfect way for me to concentrate away from a screen so I can come back to writing romance novels.

I love watercolors even without the bonus to my concentration. For about four years I thought I was done with writing and just going to paint, but it was painting that led me back to writing and publishing again. I don't paint just bc it helps me write; I wouldn't even be writing again without it.

Celebrated my new book release with an absolutely delicious chocolate ganache cake, thanks to my even sweeter spouse. It was my best release yet, thank you to everyone who is reading Checking Out the Librarian and enjoying Connor and Jonathan as much as I do. #booksky #romancebooks #writerlife

It was a very simple, pared down stage and show. Just back to back great songs. (And one medical emergency that he spotted from the stage and called in assistance for). So many great songs.

Ok so this is a huge leap - but if you follow me here, and you know what an ARC is and you'd like to get one for that spicy gay romcom I've been talking about for 1.5 years - I'm giving away free ARCs for another week. What to do to get one is in the alt text.

When his out-of-town hookup turns out to be the library's new hire, the first item on Connor's to-do list is Checking Out the Librarian. I had no idea ARC readers would think it was a super-spicy romcom. I thought it was black cat x golden retriever, hurt x comfort. Readers had other ideas.

This happened! The first paperback of one of my books that I've had since 2015 when I was with Harlequin/Carina Press, so this is a huge milestone. That's a year and a half of work right there, 536 pages of gay romantic comedy packaged up in this pretty cover drawn by Alex @hexadonis.

It will be in Kindle Unlimited on Sept 18, available in print from Ingram Spark for retail and libraries, and the ebook will be available from D2D for library purchasers very soon. I didn't realize how much work it would be to get every platform up and running, but I'm a bit of a control freak.

Well I burned my own toast this morning (because *someone* had moved the slider?) So I guess it's a day of self-love!

I've had a bit of a stressful morning and this is a lovely art process to watch several times in a row. I have to remember that I'm not just an author, I'm also a painter - and maybe after I finish one more author business thing, I'm going to pull the paints out today.

What do you call a fish with no eyes? Fsssshhhh One of my favorite jokes, any who, here is some more fish.

I love the state fair but this, this is epic.

JRho@jrho.bsky.social

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

When I say love, I mean it! We went last week and had a great time - although I made a mistake and tried a new ice cream product. Should have stuck with the soft serve swirl cone I always get at the Dairy Barn, not the slice of ice cream with nuts on it. Anyone else have fair photos?

I love driving past railyards (there are many places here in Seattle where I can see trains), looking at the cars from everywhere,, and the gorgeous art. Because it is art. And i'm glad to know that there's a certain respect between the artists and the railyard workers. Nice.

Take a break from being depressed that everything you love is being destroyed by slop for a moment and let me tell you about the beautiful symbiotic relationship between graffiti writers, train yard workers, and model train enthusiasts.

Paging through an old sketchbook, I found these little illustrations from 2023, before I got serious about restarting my writing career and took my old books back from my former publisher. I can feel the need to be writing in these captions, hiding behind my art. So glad I am doing both now.

My spouse is now a citizen so I'm free to share more of my opinions on the Internet. This is absolute perfection. F*ck the stupid tariffs & yes it's Lake f*cking Ontario & Canada was the greatest ally any nation has ever had in the history of the world. Our stupidity is boundless.

This just made me feel really good today. I hope it gives you a little happiness bump too.

I am *really* excited to see complete strangers enjoying the #mmromance I spent a year writing! From Tatiana on Goodreads: "Funny, clever, full of slightly deranged banter...I love it when stereotypes are flipped, in this case the smaller, 'fancier' MC was the top/dom/big spoon...

I was a little Midwestern Republican child when 9 to 5 came out, and I never for a moment thought Dolly was "neutral" about anything. Loved her and everything she stood for, even back when I thought differently. I changed, and that only made me admire her more.

I'm working on print formatting for Checking Out the Librarian! I printed the first couple chapters to see how the font looks at life-size. The print version will be 5.5 x 8.5 (and 500+ pages, similar size to Father Material by Alexis Hall.) This is starting to feel so real. #mmromancebooks

That lonely ND is not calling to me the same way Hawaii is, that's for sure. My distinction between visited and spent some time was if I'd been there on more than one trip of more than a couple days each, it was spent some time. whereidlive.com/s/jpmme9p6

Connor and Jonathan & their pets & friends are ready for pre-order (or for you to WIN on Goodreads). There's a bit of mistaken identity at the beginning b/c they meet in Portland for a hook up and don't say that they live in Eugene, OR ... and then Connor walks into Jonathan's library. Oops.

Omg there was a video from the orange guy in which he asked the new Americans to uphold freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom to keep and bear arms. 🤢 People now that my household are all citizens I can be unhinged on the internet.

For my first book, I spent so many hours trying to figure out how to dispose of a body on a Transatlantic flight. All the women I know have thought about body disposal. Have you?

I sent this to my husband. He watched it, then proceeded to go out on the patio to smoke a cigar. No words were uttered 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️

I feel for her, I do. I still miss my 1988 Brother Selectric typewriter with hard memory card capability. I learned my lesson though, and still have my fully functioning 1997 Toshiba Toughbook. Bounce that off someone's head, they'll go down.

Omg, I'm almost willing to forgive the hero his jackassery, simply because it's providing lines like this. Some GREAT enemies-to-lovers vibes in this one, despite everything. 😂😂😂

Hi, I'm the antibiotic with a name that rhymes with penicillin, the one that you're deathly allergic to, but maybe you should try me? I go by ampicillin and I'm new here and you live 35 minutes from a hospital in 1983, so why not give me a whirl?
