Mourning the loss of summer, so I painted some sunshiney birds to cheer myself up. First up, a cackling kookaburra. They remind me of the best summer ever in South Australia many years ago πŸ’– Full details on my dotcom x

Around 9 years ago, Colossal surprised me with a lovely write up on my work, when I was just getting started as a full time artist. Last week, they got in touch to do an update with a focus on my foxes. What an honour! Thank you to Kate @ Colossal for reaching out and producing this great article πŸ™Œ

I'm busy working on a development grant at the moment, and part of the work is learning more about sculpture (which I've wanted to do as long as I've been making art). Look at what I made last week! 3ft tall, and 10kg of steel plate πŸ”¨

It's not enough to be against AI, you need to be pro art. You need to be a champion of the art you love, you need to share that passion and joy, and do what you can to support the artists who make it, because it's not enough to hate AI, to hate what it's doing to art and media; you gotta love.

I've got 15 new mini foxes in gouache and ink on paper ready to go, and these are the last I'll be releasing for the foreseeable future. All are listed on my website now and will be available from 6pm UK time today. Link in my bio 🦊✨️

The full stack of new sculptural paintings. Only took the best part of 3 years to get them finished in between a million other things. Happy with them though. Will be even happier when they've all been adopted ☺️ #fineart #artcollector #fox

The way out I know it's there. I can't see it and the walls keep moving. But the air gets in somehow, and I can hear the world outside telling me to keep searching, working, bending, and making myself small so I can find the gap and sneak through.

Good eggs Whenever I buy eggs, I get extra for the foxes. I leave them out along the little footpath they've made in the grass that runs along the hedgerow. A small payment for the sweet sound of them playing in the dark while I work through the night.

Please Sir I dont want to bite you, sir. It's not in my nature, but the hunger overwhelms me. So, a quiet prayer to you. A polite request for a little more. Just enough to survive, sir. Just enough to feed my young. Just enough to live in this box you made for me.

A new mural for Saint Paul's Market in Birmingham. They asked for a bull, and I was happy to oblige. I designed him to look like he's caught a whiff of the yummy food cooking in the market & I tied in all of the colours used in their interior & branding. Really pleased with how he turned out...

A new mural for the underpass that leads to The Mailbox in Birmingham, designed specifically to enhance the existing light installation "The Portal", which was created by James Glancy Design for The Commonwealth Games in 2022. Commissioned by Central BID Birmingham

Look Ma, I'm in The Guardian again

'The murals are among more than 6,600 that have been identified, photographed and digitised in an ambitious project which launched in January 2024, the charity Art UK said.' 1/2

Thanks for visiting John 😊

Finally found this gorgeous creature at Wylde Green station north of Birmingham. Nurtured by the wonderful @annatomix.bsky.social #brumart #streetart #lookitsamassivefox

A thread - Back in 2016, I made a memorial portrait of David Bowie, which lived on Dudley St in Birmingham City centre for quite a few years and became a bit of a landmark. An honour for me as portraits aren't really my thing, but I'd been a lifelong fan and felt compelled to make it...

It all started with a sketch on the day I heard of Bowie's passing. Drawn while watching one of my favourite films - The Man Who Fell To Earth -, I included a quote from the script... "Well, I'm not a scientist, but I know all things begin and end in eternity" ✨️

The print edition is limited to 69 copies, one for every year of Bowie's life. If you'd like to grab one, the link is in my bio with full details, and there are a range of sizes available. All orders will be printed and shipped out in March x

When it eventually degraded so much that I had to remove it, I started making a canvas version of the same image. It wasn't a top priority among other projects, so I worked on it - on and off - for years, only adding the final touches at the end of 2025. But it's done now πŸ₯Ή 10 yrs on...

The painting is varnished and looking for a new home, and I'm making prints, which are currently on pre-order until the end of February through my store. About half are sold, and I'm happy to say a good chunk of the proceeds from the prints and original painting will be going to charity.

Ahh, the ever spiralling chore of trying to make Art, earn a living, and keep on top of social media. Has anyone found a good balance yet? Here's some fresh content for the algorithm - An itch to scratch - just sold ✨️

More from the north of Ireland. Newtownards this time, and back in 2021, although I believe he's still there. Derek the Red, to honour the local efforts in red Squirrel conservation πŸ‚

Yet another fox from a few years back at Hit The North Festival. This big lad lives in Belfast, sits at a bit more than 50ft tall, and has a wee cameo in the @kneecapceol.bsky.social movie. The mural next to him is by Bust, and this super scale shot was captured by Street Art Atlas πŸ“Έ

My neighbours had all their outdoor lights on tonight, which lit up my boy beautifully for this shot I grabbed after a late finish at the workshop. Still looking as fresh as the day I painted him ✨️
