I’m grateful to the incredibly talented Rusted Gold Art for creating this digital illustration of Leeta Simtar. This timelapse shows us their creative process -- How cool is that? #booksky

Just in time for Spooky Season. 🕯️ Fans of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and We Were Liars will love this paranormal mystery of a teen's untimely death that leads to more questions than answers. What's one of your favorite paranormal reads? books2read.com/littlethings #booksky

With a super El Niňo heading our way this fall, I'm clearing dead leaves. Like unnecessary verbiage in my writing, dead leaves clog the storm drain. Result? Out of control rain water or story lines. What's on your "Need to Clear" list? .

My dear friend Leeta Simtar’s home planet of Fure is dry, rocky, and reddish hues. So when Leeta visited recently, I decided to bring her to a lush, colorful farmer’s market!

And in case you missed it, here is part 1 bsky.app/profile/anni...

I love connecting to the characters I write, and Iast weekend visiting our local farmer’s market, I wondered what Leeta would think. Her home planet of Fure is dry and dull; this is how I imagined a tour with her would go. I had to look way up to talk to her, she’s 6.5’ tall, I’m 5’2. #booksky

Real friends are the only kind worth having. But how can you tell if those are the kind you've got? Ask yourself these questions to help you find out. #parentingsky

This painting is inspired by this passage in The Little Things That Kill- "We rocket through the portal and enter a sea of stars from distant galaxies. Up ahead a towering cloud, gorgeous and terrifying, drifts in space like a cosmic ghost." What does it look like to you? #booksky

Welcome to my writing room. I've got my tech tools plus… - Books: To remind me I'm part of a writing community - Art: To remind me I've got many ways to express my creativity - Family Photos: to remind me stories live forever in our hearts. If you've got a maker space, what's in it?

Setting your child up for a successful new school year goes beyond the classroom. There’s so many things we can do at home to make sure they’re productive and reflective. Here are some tips. #backtoschooltips #parentsky #booksky

If you have school age kids or grandkids, how do you help them to be successful in school? I’m talking about self-confidence, social confidence, and academic progress.

Kids start developing social connections in their pre-teen years. One of the questions we can ask to help them make good friend choices is by asking, “How do you define a good friend?” Luckily, kids have a good sense of right vs. wrong, so you’ll often get good responses, like these. #socialskills

Where are story ideas born? The spark for Leeta Simtar came from a question I asked myself: Why would someone have to leave home to find home? Big thanks to Stephen Abramowitz for inviting me to his podcast Author-to-Author. What a great conversation! #booksky

Whenever we talk back-to-school, it’s always about the academics. We never ask how they’re doing socially--what friends they have, how they navigate conflict. Here are some ways to start that conversation with your kids. #childdevelopment #kidssocialskills #kidsbooks

Back-to-school means back-to-friends. Teachers help kids build academic skills. Parents help kids improve social skills. Ask your child "What makes a good friend?" Help them understand that when you ARE a good friend you're more likely to HAVE good friends. #booksky

Creative expression is a gift to yourself and others. When I need a break from my Writer's Mind, I express my creativity without words. Drawing, painting and/or photography. How do you express your creativity? #booksky

“Some books entertain us. Others stay with us long after we turn the last page. The Little Things That Kill: A Teen Friendship Afterlife Apology Tour is one of those books.” Thank you Corrine Soares (IG: @cornsbooktherapy) for such a thoughtful review and for taking my story into your heart.

As kids learn to resolve conflicts with friends, we can help by listening respectfully to their concerns and encouraging them to think about their own behavior as well as the behavior of others. #booksky

While every family’s different, some of the challenges remain the same! As kids grow into teens and gain more independence, questions from the adults who care can feel like a lack of trust. TALK (respectfully) about what you want. LISTEN with an open heart to what your teen has to say.

There is no one way to write a book. To be successful at writing, you need to find the system that works for YOU. I start with a theme or question. For others, it may be a character’s journey or a setting that sparks a story. To start, notice what makes you most excited and curious. #booksky

Part of my writing process is getting major plot points down on paper, moving them around, and literally seeing what works. It allows for so much flexibility! And better yet, it’s fun, too. #booksky

A crucial part of development is not teaching kids what to think, but how to think. Posing open-ended questions like these give adolescents the opportunity to reflect before someone gives them an answer, building self-confidence. #booksky

Our sense of identity comes from connection with others, especially our friend group. That’s why kids being welcomed into a “club” or being closed out can be a big deal. Here are some low-key conversation starters you can try with your child to help build friendship skills and self-confidence.

I’ve been doing yoga 25+ years. Such gift to the mind, body and spirit! Take your typical typing posture, turn it inside out, and you’ve got camel pose!! My husband David took this photo of me and I made a painting. Have you ever created art based on a photo? #booksky

5/6: I have come here to let you know that it will be all right. Fear and anxiety will not bring you closer to realizing the world as it should be. Fear is a fantasy, a construct of the mind. Fear is an obstacle.

3/6: The darkness is really only a temporary dimming of the light. We are moving toward clearer air and a cleansing of the world. You can do much too speed up the process. You and all of the good hearted people in your community, in your country, in the world.

4/6: These are times for the peaceful warriors to come together and recognize the strength that we have to defeat the darkness. The battle is ahead, but the tides are already turning. I can feel it in the up draft of the wind in my wings when I fly.

2/6: My sweet friend Liz Amini-Holmes who knows a thing or two about signs and omens, messengers and such, suggested I ask the owl what he came to tell me. I did. #owls #naturelovers Here’s what he said: “Do not be afraid of what is in front of you.

Writing like there’s no tomorrow. Current deadline Wednesday. Still took time to pick some luscious #blackberries in the garden. You can’t pick them without getting stuck with thorns… But it’s so worth it. #writinglife #gardening

The making of a novel. Sometimes the story, with its plots and sub plots and intercutting scenes, is so big you can’t hold it all in your head. That’s when low tech paper, pen, scissors, and a big table come in very handy. #writinglife #booksky

1/2: 1 day more until my first draft deadline. Today's episode is brought to you by #honeybees #honey #backyardbeekeeping #writingLife #writingfiction What do bees have to do with writing? They inspire me. To gather pollen, build combs, make honey?

2/2: To keep working til the job's done. Hm. I can see that. Bees don't quit. Never. So when the Muses come with creative inspiration I've gotta be working. And if not? They go sprinkle their magic fairy dust on someone else.

2 days until my first draft deadline. Today’s episode is brought to you by #breakfast #WritingLife You do that every morning? Some version of it, yeah. Why go to all that trouble? It’s fun. That's it? And pretty and delicious and good for ya. What time’s breakfast served? Come on over now.

1/2: 3 days until my first draft deadline. Today’s episode is brought to you by #clouds made by Nature and photographed by this human. #writinglife #naturephotography Why clouds? Because they're amazing, ever-changing and self-editing. Are you saying you wish your first draft would edit itself?

2/2: Maybe. (Kidding) Editing's the real work of writing so I'm totally in. So why all these clouds? I need breaks from words. Instead of getting my head OUT of the clouds, it's nice to put my head IN them.
