unsequenced.lifeThese are weird peopleI read and reviewed Adam Becker’s book More Everything Forever last year, but I recommend it so often, I decided to pull it into its own entry.

Age researchers might consider domestic Ringneck Doves. Much easier to maintain than bats. I have a male who was rescued as an adult bird over 14 years ago. He shows no sign of ageing. There's nothing to distinguish him from his children and grandchildren. petcraft.com

True, the birds don't have the alchemist twist for funding that promising the fountain of youth on bat wings does. Doves yield facts, not fancy. My suspicion is that tales of great age in bats are folklore.

Here's an update on my story in August about scientists using AI to make viruses. Now a startup has put AI viruses in a patient, to test them as a treatment called phage therapy. Gift link: nyti.ms/47pOLJv

Those studying animals ageing well might consider the domestic ringneck dove. These easy to maintain birds can go well past a dozen years with no sign of being old. My memory is that there are reports of doves in their thirties, but these individuals are geriatric.

As a tangent, theres a huge literature on training to improve physical performance.  For the intellectual, we have not much more than what our grandmothers could have told us -- get lots of rest.  That and repetitio est mater studiorum.

Instead, should AI use be banned like steroids in athletics? Might something like the guideline for Kabbalah study -- not before age 40-be in order?   As a stray pensée, in the back of my mind is McLuhan's perspective that there's pervasive evil in electronic media -- a breaking of the circle.
