Ironically, this commonly shared GIF shows the exact opposite of "no lies detected." The finger is pointing to reactions that polygraph operators hold to be indicative of deception. (Of course, it's all hocus-pocus.)

Alder also names the part my dissertation studied: the examiner’s discretion decides the result, and that’s where racial and confirmation bias get in. And the confessions the ritual pressures out of people tell you nothing about whether the machine works. wildetruth.substack.com/p/everybodys...

Nothing drives me more crazy when police act like it is suspicious when somebody refuses a polygraph. IT IS JUNK SCIENCE. Nobody should ever, ever agree to a polygraph even if they know they are 100% innocent. At this point, it shouldn't even be allowed as a tactic just like it isnt allowed in court

Today would have been polygraph critic Doug Williams's 81st birthday. In 2015, he was sent to prison on trumped-up charges. In 2021, he died less than a year after completing a 2-year sentence and 3 years of supervised release.

One lesson not learned from 9/11 is that polygraphs don't work and are easily beaten, and that (as we have documented) Salafist militants are well aware of this. Yet in its countermeasures course, the federal polygraph school disregards this fact.
