Can't stop thinking about the concept of #zibaldone ever since reading @zibaldoni.bsky.social's amazing The Notebook A History of Thinking on Paper. I wounder what part of the commonplace book can be recreated on today's social media? This account is my attempt to figure it out. Welcome to my brain.

I’ve been using the OpenDyslexic font on my Kindle for the past couple of weeks. I’ve gotten used to it; I don’t hate it anymore. Don’t know if it helps with my reading speed (it’s kinda hard to measure accurately). But I did notice feeling less tired after I’ve been reading for an extended time.

There is a special, betrayed kind of hurt feeling that I get when an event I mistook for an intimate get-together turns out to be a larger affair with a number of acquaintances or new people attending. Just #introvert stuff, I guess.

In retrospect, I should not have said that. Today was the most frustrating, exhausting, totally unproductive day in a long time. I’m lucky to have awesome colleagues who stuck through it with me, so it wasn’t as painful as it could’ve been.

Reliable way to detect you are chatting to an LLM? Switch languages mid-conversation. Those models just can’t help themselves not to answer in the new language.

Open House festival is this weekend; architects, urban planners and art historians are giving guided tours of public and private buildings and neighborhoods around the city. I love learning about the details, the history, the foresight and fumbles of places I see daily or have never heard about.

Had to change my antiperspirant recently after the one I used for years went pro on the whole perspiration issue. The new one is better but has a different smell. I like it but it trips me up that I myself have a different scent now. It’s freaky how my sense of self was tied up with a random stick.

Catching up with Critical Role, and in episode 34 Robbie gave the perfect answer to the “How do you want to do this?” question: “I learned the rules!”

Ah, a new piece of furniture from IKEA, first one in a couple of years. And it’s a Billy. An absolute classic. I enjoy putting these things together.

I wonder why YouTube is so infamously obsessed with new content. 🤔 Streaming platforms get a lot of mileage from old hit shows like The Office or Friends. How come YouTube is ignoring centuries of content they already have on hand in favor of driving their creators towards burnout and/or AI slop?

Wife’s got a new kindle, which means I’ve got a new kindle! 🥳 Looking forward to wonders of modern technology, such as backlight and touchscreen. 😅

Hm… why is it that video conferencing software has filters for blush and lipstick effects, but not for a clean-shaven look? I feel there’s room for some product-market fit there.

You are right by accident; you are kind by choice. That’s why I have more respect for a kind person who happens to be wrong than a bully who happens to be right. It’s also why I believe we should reject bullies and flock around folks who are kind.

I've seen things ye old trekkies wouldn't believe. Muppets on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched tears glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like credits at the movies. Time for S04E10. #SNW

Trying something new today: what if I didn’t rush to work first thing in the morning? Instead, I’ll have a cup of coffee at home, maybe solve a sudoku, listen to a podcast, read some blogs… And then go to work. Let’s see how I like that.

Reading a sci-fi book about maintaining a universe-generating machine. Think to myself: “this reads like a fan fiction about Spectre and Meltdown exploits”. Look up the author: he’s a microprocessor architect. 🤯 Btw it’s “The Subtle Art of Folding Space”, I recommend it for fans of STEM & puns.

Hm… my PDS gets stuck every time the machine it runs on unexpectedly reboots. It’s probably a race condition with disk or network or something like that. It restarts fine once the machine is up and running. One of these days I’ll have to look into it.

Asymmetrical iPhone Duo made me think: I’m right-handed, but I keep my keys in my right pocket & my phone in the left. That means I often use the phone with my left hand, especially for quick checks/glances. Am I alone in this? Which pocket do you keep your phone in? Will it “work” with Duo? 🤔

I wonder if we are already living in a post-meme world. With genAI, anyone can generate any image or clip. Does the abundance of slop spell doom for accidental serendipity of funny video genre? Was hawk tuah the last great one?

I love to find standalone novels from authors whose series I enjoy, especially those that capture the spirit of the series while benefiting from standalone structure. Like House of Suns from Alastair Reynolds or The Algebraist from Ian M. Banks.

This seems super interesting! It’s the first time in a long while that I’m genuinely enthusiastic about an upcoming game! Definitely goes to the top of my post-apocalypse list. Looking forward to playing this in a couple of years, after the rammageddon winds down.

iPhone is a pretty good deal for AI sceptics in the EU: most of Apple intelligence features are disabled, and you are left to use all that plentiful RAM as you wish.

I love it when I’m kinda busy or otherwise engaged for a few weeks, and then I come back to my podcast player, and there are multiple new episodes of my favorite shows waiting for me.

I got an 80-something score from the sleep tracker because I woke up during the night, and it took me ~15 min to fall back asleep. It pissed me off; it’s not my fault! I went to bed on time, I slept long enough overall. What more do you want from me you stupid app? Give me the perfect score I crave!

Here’s the deal. I have an AC in my home office. But the external unit is mounded directly opposite the wall with a climbing plant. Whenever the AC runs, the poor thing is blasted with hot air. I can’t bring myself to do that. I’ve been working from home for the last 2 days, and I’m a sweaty mess. 🥵

How do you wrap up a Teams/Zoom meeting? I’ve been having daily online meetings for the past six years (if not more), and I still don’t know what to say at the end. I think I need a catchphrase. Something like: Qapla'! 🤔

Listening to the latest episode of Ed Zitron’s Better Offline podcast is eye-opening. I was wary of folks dismissing Ed, but him learning how AI works for the 1st time in the fall of 2026, after critiquing it for years, is damming. You can’t in good faith criticize a tool you know nothing about. 🫤
