Interested in how climate impact could be incorporated into health technology assessment? We leverage real-world evidence for triple therapy inhalers, estimates of the carbon footprint on inhalers, and bring it together in an HTA framework! #ISPORAnnual

Excited to share this new work co-authored with Leah Rand & Mike Paulden in Health Affairs Forefront! There's been lots of talk about the relationship between innovation, cost-effectiveness analysis, and incremental cost-effectiveness thresholds. (1/4) www.healthaffairs.org/content/fore...

Whether you agree with specific estimates of the empirically calculated threshold or not, it is almost certainly lower than commonly used thresholds. Therefore, the difference between the two could effectively be thought of as the premium paid for innovation (or newness). (4/4)

Some are arguing that conventional CEA needs to be modified to not stifle innovation. In this piece, we assert that commonly used ICER thresholds in the US (i.e., $100,000 or $150,000 per QALY gained) *already do this*. (2/4)

It's been a few years but really excited to be back at Canada's Drug Agency Symposium 2026! Off to a great start with a plenary on international approaches to HTA with Suzanne McGurn, Sarah Emond, Natalie M., and Yannis Natsis. #CDAAMC26

Two abstracts accepted for ISPOR 2026 in Philadelphia! The 1st abstract illustrates a way to include climate impact into health technology assessment. The 2nd is an analysis of spending on new gene therapies for recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. See you in Philly!

The clinical aspect & decision aside, it's problematic for health systems that BioMarin priced Brineura at $1 million. If companies didn't charge these prices, decisions would be easier & less restrictive. Note: Brineura's net sales in 2024 were $170 million (US alone). www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Extreme heat & air pollution are a "double whammy" threat to public health, increasing hospital visits for respiratory, heart & mental health, says our director @maryrice-lungdr.bsky.social to @NYTimes.com. Rollbacks to air quality regulations threaten to make pollution worse https://loom.ly/BURs3N0
