I am slightly embarrassed that it took me this long to try letterpress 😳 The workshop at Porchlight Press was very awesome and I’m pleased with how these card turned out! So glad we still have spaces to do these kinds of very analog, wonderful things.

So a while ago one of my fonts was featured in this newsletter so I checked it out. Long story short, it’s thoughtful observations like this that remind me of the old internet and take me back to a time where I had more real thoughts and conversations.

I had started to believe that because I had moved into a new season of my life with a more defined career and parenting commitments that I just didn’t have the time to reflect and think deeply about stuff. I am now realizing that it wasn’t about lack of time but instead a lack of inspiration.

Articles that more deeply make observations about the way we live our daily lives and offer more global perspectives used to come across my feeds all the time, but not so much now. Anyway, I feel like I’ve been thinking more these days and this newsletter has played a part in sparking that.

Typefaces may not physically weigh much (at least not since the days of metal type) but putting in the time and effort to shape them makes them feel heavy, substantial. The bigger the character set, the more robust the family of styles, the heavier it feels and the more satisfying it is to make.

Great stuff happening in the latest @glyphsapp.com release! Also, I love how entertaining the release notes are 😂, so many little gems like "...And if you understood what this means, you are probably that guy who created and sent us that edge case in the first place." glyphsapp.com/news/glyphs-...

I feel like this chart applies to discourse about most things (not just limited to discussions around AI)—it’s a good reminder to think about how you are discussing things with folks around you.

mschindler ★@mschindler.com

The way we’re talking about AI in design is kinda crazy-cuckoo-nutsack-bananas. It’s leaving folks anxious, excluded, exhausted. So, I wrote a piece to name the patterns — and offer something healthier in return. 👇 Read the full piece: tinyurl.com/4954ewxn #UX #AI #ProductDesign #DesignSky #UXSky

New look! This name change is coinciding with the foundry’s 5th birthday and to celebrate, I thought I would confuse everyone about my identity (I joke, I joke). Moving forward, we will be called Arcane Type Foundry and we believe fonts are magic!

Sometimes other people make cool things and I wonder why I didn’t make a similar cool thing that I had an idea for but haven’t got around to it yet. Then I realize they are a team of 12 people and I am just me. Wish I could do that “mirror image” spell and my copies could all work for me.

We’re are launching an independent industry-wide survey for font users. We want to hear about your experiences: What works? What’s confusing or frustrating? What would you change? Your answers will help us decide how licensing works within the Fontstand Cooperative. fontstand.com/survey

A very special font release! It's a handwriting font based on my Grandfather's writing from 1955, when he was writing love letters to my Nana. My grandfather recently turned 99, and I wanted to celebrate by making this font for him, but it's so pretty not to share, so it's available on my site now!

It’s back! This will be the 3rd annual Fontathon (I think after three years we can consider it an annual event!?) and I am very excited to be watching and streaming live type design from March 8-9!

Recently got a Nikon Z50II after years without a camera (other than the one on my phone). My D80 broke about 5 years ago and I just kinda stopped taking photos, which was weird because I’ve been the one who takes photos since high school. Anyway, now I want to take photos every day, here’re a few.
