70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

theatlantic.comThe Man Who Saved the Internet YesterdayOndřej Surý was a relatively anonymous volunteer working on PHP security. Then the internet exploded.

Flysch cliffs, Zumaia, one of the most amazing geological formations I've seen. These vertical layers run for 8 kilometres along Basque coast, each a page, forming a book covering 60 million years of our planet's history. Created when Iberia crashed into Europe and things went all squishy.

We are on Bluesky now! SEHR is a journal publishing articles and reviews in the fields of economic, business and social history with a particular focus on the Nordic countries and the Baltic region. Here, we post about new publications and other important events.

Jonathan Westin, GRIDH Gothenburg University, and Elin Fornander, Swedish Historical Musuems. On digital content in exhibits, and challenges they create for authenticity, trustworthiness for museums. Especially in the age of AI. #Digikult2026

Elin Fornander: Digital content in exhibits often contain a mix of fact, fantasy and interpretation. But how will visitors know which is which? This is often a question that is posed too late in the process. It needs to be part of early design. #Digikult2026

Nils Harnesk, Norrbotten museum and Peter Uvén, the Silver museum, on the development of a digital platform for the history of Norrbotten, in northernmost Sweden, aimed at schools and the public, as it is often missing in history books. #Digikult2026 #DigitalHeritage

Björn Lilieblad, Research coordinator at Östergötland Museum, on what is necessary for successful collaboration between museums, universities, and schools (or anyone really). True support from management, mandate, plans to implement results, how to communicate etc #DigitalHeritage #Digikult2026

Wilhelm Lagercrantz, on the Dutch model for #DigitalHeritage. How a State can organise and support interoperability in the sector while also allowing for an ecosystem of different collection systems and databases: Common standards, national networks, goals set by elected officials. #Digikult2026

Hanna af Ekström, on a research project using study circles to see how people engage with archival collections from their regions and how their recollections enrich the stories and creates value for participants.

Opening keynote of #Digikult2026 is Karin Glasemann, PhD in history, former digital curator and now Chief Operating Officer of #Wikimedia Sweden. "Från samling till sammanhang" (From collections to context). #LinkedData #DigitalHeritage

You guys want to hear a short but adorable story that happened right in front of me at the baggage claim in NYC yesterday? I wasn't part of it and there are bits I didn't catch but holy crap, I can't stop thinking about it.

🧵The rape kit was invented by a woman, named after a man and paid for by Playboy magazine. Her name was Marty Goddard. In Chicago, early 1970s, about 16,000 women were being raped in a year. When women went to the police they weren’t believed.

Wow! Major new site discovered on Lismore, in the inner Hebrides. “The most exciting moment for me was when they were doing the post-excavation analysis and they found that they had been melting gold, copper, silver, and they were making jewellery on our little island in the seventh century.”

Margot Finn@eicathomefinn.bsky.social

'What the islanders discovered were extensive burial grounds, decorated stonework and early buildings – all the features belonging to a major sixth-century monastery, comparable to the much better known site of Iona a little to the south-west.'

An amazing glimpse into Mesolithic everyday life: this more than 7,500-year-old ring was made from heather roots, carefully rolled up and prepared for later use. It was discovered at the settlement of Motala/Sweden, where the same material was used for fish traps. Dating 5750–5550 BC. 🧵1/2 📷me

SCOOP: Top researchers at Columbia, Stanford, and others thought they were elected to elite scientific societies alongside Nobel laureates. The catch? The organizations are a sham. I spent the last month diving deep into a massive academic scam spanning continents, for @nature.com

We uncovered a sprawling network of sham academies using digitally manipulated photos, plagiarized content and scientists' identities without their consent eg The "European Academy of Engineering", supposedly headquarted in Sweden, was actually using a doctored photo of the University of Gothenburg
