brightondome.orgHeritage Open Day 2026 / What's On - Brighton DomeThis year's Heritage Open Day explores our building through the lives of those who have worked here over more than two centuries.

With the building stripped back for restoration ASE's Dr Michael Shapland could see parts of the original structure, which he compared with historical floor plans and a description of the suite given by Wilde during his infamous trial in 1895. He found just one set of rooms that matched.

Dr Shapland said “Old buildings have long memories, and I find it quite moving to realise this is where Oscar and [his companion] Alphonse stayed 130 years ago. It was an important time in Wilde’s life and marks a point just before things fell apart for him.”

Old, tired and used PPE now is sent to an external provider for professional deep cleaning and returned for re-use. If it’s not salvageable, the PPE is made into waste product fibres used for blankets, pet bedding and insulation. This reduces waste AND saves money on buying new equipment. Win win!

Led by @mattpope.bsky.social and supported by staff from @archsoutheast.bsky.social, the excavation at Jardin de Perchard will investigate how the landscape was used 6,000 years ago while also uncovering evidence of much earlier Ice Age environments and human activity 👇 @ucl.ac.uk #archaeology

ucl.ac.ukWork starts on three-year project that will help "unlock Jersey's full story"Archaeologists have begun excavations opposite La Hougue Bie in Grouville, Jersey, a Neolithic site estimated to be around 6,000 years old.

Ryan was able to join the wider UCL apprentice cohort last week to receive his completion certificate and celebrate their achievements. 🎓 Darryl Palmer, Head of Fieldwork and Survey, was also in attendance and accepted the Investor in Apprenticeships certificate on behalf of ASE.
