random fuyuki resident blearly looking out the window at 2am: what the fuck is that clanking

it's been a fucking month since the last chapter drop and the anime is still in "sometime next year we think" limbo, announce something you bastards this series is absolute peak

(this comparison is maybe like 25% serious. i do think the show walks into it in some really funny ways, i do *not* think they actually *meant* to. if you start actual discourse about this comparison in my mentions i will bite you.)

really, really don't love that we've just become the designated punching bag of the queer community for some reason!

This piece is going to make me become The Joker oh wow you don't understand what being a nonbinary transfem could be WHY DON'T YOU FUCKING ASK SOMEONE INSTEAD OF SCREAMING ABOUT HOW THEY'RE NOT ONTOLOGICALLY REAL AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE FUCKING ACADEMICS??????????? MOREOVER, ICE MUST BE DESTROYED

bsky feature request: make Ad Terram Promissam from ace combat 8 with the crackly radio filter from all the shadows themes play over everyone's speakers when they see me jumping into a horrible discourse

if i worked at bsky uh well first i would fire the transphobe but idk would it be funnier to make him program this (by hand, without AI) first, while repeatedly kicking the back of his chair, and THEN fire him

To paraphrase Shepard: "Westwood Studios. Bullfrog Productions. Origin Systems. Mythic Enertainment. DreamWorks Interactive. Maxis Software. Visceral Games. Pandemic Studios. BioWare. And yes, I remember them all."

i do not like AI, but the discourse around it has gone in a direction where i am starting to very sincerely think having strong opinions about it *at all, in either direction* is an actual fucking cognitohazard straight out of the SCP wiki that makes you no longer able to function as a human being

all Edgerunners 2 discourse aside, can i just say it's really funny that this was perfectly timed so we'd get the actual fucking Datakrash happening literally within days of a new Cyberpunk thing dropping

Lucretiel@lucretiel.me

So just to summarize we’ve got: - eMudhra keys leaked (“4”) - RCE in PHP since 2012 - RCE in gitlab since 2016 - Java CVE (probably eMudhra) - HTTP3 compression bomb - PingCAP just utterly beyond 0wned Anything else?

Hearing that Chris Carter stuck a hat on a person who literally couldn't move for clout is very funny to me. What an asshole.

after sleeping on it for a day: yeah edgerunners 2 is... not great. i'm inclined to be kind to it because i'm on friendly terms with a few people who worked on it, and i *want* to like it so much more than i do. but it's just SO rough and janky and thinly-formed in just about every possible regard

and i now get why critics speak in PR language on social media, because christ this is an awkward position to be in, given i am friends with at least one person who worked on this show and friendly acquaintances with SEVERAL and i do not want this to come off like i'm ragging on them personally.

also think that it's *really* not doing ER2 any favors that it's trying to do similar big-picture thematic things to Ace Combat 8, esp re: how it engages with cyberpunk (genre), and it's not anyone's fault, but that's not a fight ANYONE is going to win and i don't envy CDPR accidentally picking it.

if s1 of Edgerunners hit the same "perfectly constructed work by masters firing on all cylinders" energy as something like Terminator 2 or Aliens, Edgerunners 2 feels like the corresponding Terminator: Salvation or Alien: Romulus. i *know* you guys at CDPR can do better. i've seen you do better.

and i think that's what frustrates me the most about it. every single person i know who was involved in this, CAN knock it out of the park when they're bringing their A-game. this is just not anyone's A-game. treating it as if it *is* would feel more insulting than saying i know damn well it's not.

like, i'm very mixed on this. i feel like it's a totally fine and decent 10 eps on its own merits but the places it falters noticeably are the specific things that edgerunners knocked out of the park that made it stand out. for all the scorsese vs bay comparisons, ER2 feels like more the bay movie.

it's also interesting (neither here nor there) that this series is a lot more... worksafe than edgerunners 1. i do not think i saw a single naked boob in the entire show. you could run this on toonami with only light language edits at most (and probably not even that? think Hellsing got to say fuck)

6/10. i don't know how much i can really get into without spoilers, so i'm going to give my general take: this is a very Fine season of television that does more or less what i want cyberpunk things in 2026 to do, but doesn't really do it all that effectively and feels *very* emotionally hollow.

it's nowhere near as bad as i was worried it *could* have been. i'll definitely say it doesn't cater to the existing worse ends of the Cyberpunk fandom the way i was worried it would. but it doesn't... get why the first one worked, exactly. it kind of sprawls too much to make anything feel earned.

Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War

wint@dril.bsky.social

when the CIA attempted to recruit me, they said I could suck any cock on earth. Any I desire. I turned down their offer because i am not Gay

looked this up expecting it to be, like, an anthro sheep girl with huge tits or something no that's just a fucking non-anthropomorphic cartoon sheep

much like your ghosting@mlyp.bsky.social

if you want to know how things are going in New Zealand a bank made their sheep mascot too fuckable, and now its everyones problem

i'm not going to judge the show's quality until i've seen it, but christ on a bicycle, there is not a more specifically worrying collection of words about it that could've possibly been written.

I like the one about ancient Greece where they sentenced a statue to exile by flinging it into the sea because a dumb asshole tried to fight it and died when it fell on him

just had the realization that Ace Combat 8 is basically a test case of everything i'm saying the cyberpunk genre should be thinking about in 2026 and... pretty much proved me correct across the board. it rips and people are fucking loving it and it's not selling out the genre in the process at all.

seeing Ace Combat, one of my favorite video game series of all time and a huge influence on what I consider cool and "hype" writing (growing up with AC and Metal Gear was very very formative to preteen Arrow) go for this, knock it out of the park, and be widely acknowledged as such, warms my heart

ace combat 8's core thesis is that, as we approach a "cyberpunk future" in real life, the main thing driving this is people losing their humanity, losing hope. and the thing we need to be doing is holding on to our humanity in any way we can and raging against the dying of that light.

the genre was a warning of a future we could stave off. now, it's slowly becoming reality. we *live in* gibson's nightmare. but as long as we hold on to what makes this species beautiful, we can make it through. this isn't the only way to do the genre, but it's the way *i personally* have wanted to
