Getting ready for concrete tomorrow. Hired 4 day finishers to help pour and finish the concrete. 10 yards. A full truckload. And a pump. Expensive day tomorrow. Pouring: Apron in front of shed. Walkway from apron to house. Step full length of walkway separating fire pit and main yard.

What an incredible honor to be nominated by my company to take delivery of a brand new Boeing 737-MAX 9 and fly with it to Chicago from Seattle. Flew in yesterday and toured the 737 assembly line, was wined and dined while the ownership paperwork was transferred to United. (1/2)

And this morning attended the ribbon cutting and boarded at a private Boeing terminal at the Boeing King County Field in Seattle. Once in a lifetime experience. (2/2)

Project updates. Another concrete truck coming on Monday, pouring my patio planters and some more walls. Also, completed the fence project from a few weeks ago (at least it’s closed in haven’t finished my side)

This wall (on left) I also hammered out because it had a little bit of a blowout but mainly had a really bad finish. Also just a victim of all my effort spent saving the forms for my failed planter.

Update (forgot to post) Had a big failure with this pour, my forms blew out on one of my planters. Had to abandon that one and start digging it out while the concrete was still wet so I could salvage the form boards and rebar. And save effort on the jackhammer,

This planter came out ok. But had some compaction issues. Really just lost time digging the other failed one out to give this one the attention it needed for a good finish. I can probably grind it and get it looking better.

Forgot to post project update. Thursday concrete. Pumped a retaining wall/fence and raised my garage landing area. Concrete was super “hot” and was setting fast. I wasn’t able to get a good finish on it but good enough for the circumstances. Ready to start forms for my next pour in a few weeks.

Some Project update. New fence posts installed and area for retaining wall along new fenceline dig out. Concrete truck coming Thursday if the weather forecast holds for a dry morning. Might be a wet day… Old fence was placed 6 feet inside the property line to hide utility box. I rather have

Some project updates. Along the back fence line. Digging a trench for new fence. Will be embedded into retaining wall. Also, first section of new fence for a different property line is going up. This will allow me to fence this area in while I work so don’t have to worry about dogs getting out

Successfully “daylighted” under the house foundation. Ran my auger horizontally and finally broke through. Almost killed myself of carbon monoxide exhaust poisoning in the trench lol. Had to take it slow and brought in some fans to suck the exhaust out.

5 foot deep trench for water line out to work shop. Boring under my foundation and come up through crawl space to tie into my house water supply. Deep enough it won’t freeze. This is the last of the major “prep” projects before I can start finishing up my backyard. The rest should go quickly.

“High risk” project today. Ground down the top of my retaining wall, set anchors, cut a channel (I didn’t like the finish at all. Drive me mad looking at it) Installing a new concrete top to it today, and adding a slight bit of height to it. High risk because it may come out looking worse lol

Project time: first hole started for new rear fence. I actually own more property back here than the original fenceline suggested. I think it was to hide a utility vault. I don’t mind looking at it if I get a bit more backyard. Pink string line (hard to see) is my property line.

Excavation continues in front of the shed, now working my way back alongside this planter. Will be a concrete walkway, retaining wall, and a concrete slab in front of the shed. Like a driveway kinda. About 2 more weeks of digging and hauling dirt.

Moved rock from one area to the other today. Will do a different type of rock on the side of the shed. Moved the rock to the rear of the shed to make better storage since nothing grows there very well anyway.

Today’s project. Relocating rock from old planter to new planter so I can add more dirt to old planter as it has settled over the years. Cleaning and washing the rock

Excavation continues this week. Basically removing this hill. Hauling away a little bit at a time. This will be a concrete area in front of my shed. Useful for working on things etc.

Removed all of the concrete that I demo’d the other day. Taking advantage of good weather to keep my excavating work going. Should be in good shape to get a lot of concrete work done this spring and summer.

That’s a wrap for the day. About 2.5 hours on the jackhammer. Was able to preserve my imprint slab in one piece by making some control cuts around it. I will move it somewhere else. Will move the concrete chunks out over the next few days a little bit at a time.

Today’s project: excavating some project work I did almost 6 years ago. Massively miscalculated my elevations and was going off of instinct. Instinct was wrong so redoing this section at some point. Trying to preserve my concrete imprints though.

Have been taking advantage of warm weather this winter to do a lot of digging. Something I hate doing in the summer months. Prep work for future projects like a patio and drainage stuff this spring and summer.

Today’s adventure. Drove to Denver to purchase this old Missouri Pacific RR block signal. Was in service in the late 70’s or early 80’s, likely in Pueblo or Trinidad CO. #trains
