Ratio update thread: Land on a band's page on Ratio with no account and nothing there to play yet, and there is a box now for an email address, which gets you one confirmation message and after that only what the band sends when it has something new, each one carrying its own way to stop them.

Under an act's nights on Ratio there is now a row called Shared a bill with, and each one opens that act's page. Instead of using an algorithm to suggest like-artists, we're using the band's own shows and in-person links.

A flyer that prints a month and a day and no year used to leave whoever filed it guessing, so a night like that now files as year unknown, prints that way on its page without a weekday, since the weekday depends on the year, and takes the last spot on the room's list.

I always appreciate it when people express an interest in my safety. I encourage people to expand that concern beyond plastic hats. I've needed helmets: they can help! But please also ask drivers to slow down, judge people with dangerous trucks or habits, and ask leaders to build separated lanes.

The War on Cars@thewaroncars.bsky.social

NEW! "Fine, We're Doing a Helmet Episode." After Mayor Mamdani posted a video showing him wearing a bike helmet, social media exploded. But what are helmets designed to do? Who sets the standards? And what is it about the mere mention of them that causes people to lose their minds? bit.ly/4gFMJub

Astounding that somebody could write "Are We Engineering Physical Activity Out Of Daily Life?" and not be talking about decades of making cars the easiest way to get around cities

Jon Owen@anotherjon.bsky.social

Another 'e-bike' article in which the writer - in this case, a public health researcher - fails to specify whether they're discussing electric motorbikes, or electrically assisted pedal cycles (which actually provide higher intensity physical activity than walking). www.forbes.com/sites/bernad...

Worth the read. Politics and international trade, but with sentences like, "The politest shiv in the Commonwealth, slid between the third and fourth rib without a single raised syllable, and the recipient won’t even feel it until he reads about himself in the papers."

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

“Carney’s official statement deserves to be read in full, slowly, with a beer, because underneath the diplomatic wallpaper it’s the most quietly savage document a G7 leader’s put out in years. It reads like a bank manager foreclosing on a bloke’s entire self-image & the bank manager is enjoying it.”

Jesus fucking Christ covid vax REDUCED miscarriages and stillbirths. Also I'm one of the people who studied menstrual side fx of the covid vax to make sure we didn't invalidate peoples' real experiences, and to better set expectations for side fx. Ultimately the project made me even MORE provax!

Bicycles deliver the freedom that cars advertise.

David Roberts@volts.wtf

This has long been one of my nightmare scenarios for EVs and *especially* for autonomous vehicles: mandatory advertising, delivered to your screens, with no way to opt out. Utterly dystopian.

I'd love to see a similar map of Cincinnati. Streetcar vs highways probably overlap more than this, but might look pretty similar.

If you stood on Briggate at 8am on a weekday in 1957, and stood there again in 2026, in which year could you reach more of the city in half an hour? Samuel Bancroft has crunched the numbers. Since the 1950s, Leeds has got bigger - but the city has effectively shrunk.

Ratio can tell you who played on a record now, not just who released it. A musician gets a page of their own, for the human rather than the band: what they play, who they play with, and everything they have been credited on across every project.

Artists add the credits from their release. If the person credited is not on Ratio yet, the credit waits until they make a profile, and nothing appears on anyone's page until they confirm it. Trying to make this a little music resume assembler. ratio.fm

New on Ratio: record labels! A label gets a public page for its roster, and an importer that reads a dragged folder of albums, sorts the tracks, and refuses to upload anything twice. If you run one, let's chat about how to support your artists: ratio.fm/for-labels?utm_source=bluesky

Pedestrianization is often framed as transforming streets. In many cases, we're actually restoring them. We're reclaiming what's been lost: social connection, local commerce, civic life, and human-scale movement. Perhaps it's time to shift from street transformation to street restoration.

Been trying to find fresh numbers, but Qobuz pays out about 5-6x Spotify (great!). Ratio.fm is even higher (double that!). It's streaming built for artists.

Also new on Ratio: Artists get a Fans tab that shows who follows them, since when, and how many minutes each fan has actually spent with their music, which is a number no other platform will show them (that I know of). Data is exportable, and it's theirs to keep. Power to the artists!
