Windows XP is 25 years old The legendary operating system served as an inspiration for the ubiquitous FOBOS, featured in the corporate world of SeverLink

this is a QUARTER CENTURY old now youtu.be/GAv1EwoRnec Back to 2001 on LGR today for a retrospective on Windows XP! Reminiscing on its release, unboxing and setting it up, new features, games, screensavers, and a bunch of nifty early 2000s things. Still a truly enjoyable eXPerience decades later!

Nic is a friend and a damn good artist - check out his work!

this could end up being a very bad month for me. if you need an artist on your project or team, however small, keep me in mind.

We want to express our immense gratitude to everyone who backed, shared and supported our modest campaign for SeverLink! Without you, this wouldn't be possible, so thank you for your interest in our passion project 💚 Stay tuned for the further updates!

Remembering my time working on Dragon Age Keep Some early illustrations from it, inspired by the animated cutscenes from DA II and made in 2013-214. Originally intended to be mostly grayscale, this was later changed and recolored for the final release by the amazing concept art team at Sperasoft

I was surprised to discover that the romance option template made it all the way to Veilguard A cool bit of trivia :)

Pouring one out I remember playing KotOR as a kid with a dictionary on my lap, frantically looking up new words in English because it was such a dialogue-heavy game I remember losing myself in Mass Effect 2 and its lifelike characters, and choices, and music, and Omega’s sepia fumes

My very first job in the industry was doing outsource for BioWare during the companion app craze. Seeing the style guides and concepts for then-upcoming Inquisition and “Mass Effect Next” was akin to discovering Holy Grail I even made a Christmas variant of the BW logo once. Surreal to remember

But regardless of the warm memories - the BRAND doesn’t make games, people do People who want to live in safety, work with dignity and create freely. People who are denied this safety and dignity time and again, just to make the line go up ever so slightly. For a brief moment, for someone’s bonus

That's a wrap on Castlevania: Belmot's Curse Absolutely gorgeous art direction. So vibrant, so bold - every screen a painting, and every VFX particle - a stroke of genius. Gargantuan effort by the team - they should ask for x10 raises! I'm so sad that gameplay-wise it ended up very much Not For Me

There's an abundance of acrobatic challenges too, but unlike smth like Pseudoregalia, the moveset is limited and level design is prescriptive, so there's not a lot of room for experimentation and expression And the map is VAST but because of the scale, individual rooms tend to get lost in the mix

It feels to me that by going the very mainstream route, a chance to stand out mechanically was lost Weirdly enough, if it tried to be an IGAvania in style of SotN or Aria, then it would feel more unique, since we're not getting a lot of those lately But I dunno, man, I wish the team all the best

Unlike the standout visuals, the gameplay felt like a smorgasbord of typical metroidvania mechanics of the 2020s. I notice shades of Hollow Knight, The Lost Crown, Blasphemous, some Soulsy bits The emphasis is shifted to punishing and frequent combat, but the moves are mushy and enemies are spongy

I‘d be pretty content with going through the rest of my life without having to “infuse an item with a resource point after completing a challenge” ever again

Chat, is this good?

Happy "More games have now been released on Steam in 2026 so far than in all of 2025" day for those who celebrate

i make practically nothing from my job, i have next to nothing in my bank account, and i can’t keep piling on more commissions. to keep my head afloat, i’m opening up a ko-fi where you can support me in whatever way you’re able. even five dollars is an enormous help. thank you

Castlevania mockup from a couple of years ago, imagining a third game in the “Sorrow” series! Re-sharing this to celebrate Belmont’s Curse release.

NEW: Here's a big read about how Ubisoft union workers in Milan and Canada are attempting to push back against a sweeping five-day return-to-office mandate they claim is already tanking morale and will result in employees being forced to leave. Notably, it is also driving union interest.

Vertical Slice@verticalslice.news

"This is your crisis, this is your failure:" Inside the global battle to preserve remote working at Ubisoft The Assassin's Creed publisher wants all employees to work in-office five days per week, but unions in Milan and Montreal have mobilised in defiance

Addiction by Design was published all the way back in 2012 and I think it’s the best (and absolutely devastating) book about the mechanics and economics of the predatory gaming industry It wasn’t even about video games, but you could map it to our sphere almost 1-to-1

While a lot of the high level concepts regarding manipulation and engagement tinkering are likely true, they've also ALWAYS been true and we've known it for decades because very smart people did the research and studied this shit

DOOM '98 Imagined what if id Software released an additional entry in the Doom series in 1998, using a technological mix between id Tech 2 and GoldSrc engine. Going for the blend of fantastical and grounded, which would be in vein of Half-Life and System Shock 2.

Inspired by the 90s graphic design trend of Corporate Grunge and the infamous FIREBLU texture from the original Doom, I wanted to craft a UI direction for the project that would feel very much of its time but still belong to the franchise.

Modelling the scenes and the weapon in Blender, I wanted to give them a more fleshed out sci-fi spin. Big shoutout to @mooneysart.bsky.social for the inspiration with his last years Doom 2000 mockups!

I also wanted to challenge myself and create a high-resolution take on Doomguy's face to put it in the in-game HUD. I wasn't aiming for 100% likeness (the original is perfect!) but rather a new memorable take. No generative art here - just good ol collage, photobashing and overpainting!

Uncut Gems was exhausting to watch (affectionate) Marty Supreme was exhausting to watch (derogatory)

We're trying to make our early demo available through Steam for you convenience! Sadly, we're still waiting for Steam Support to get back to us regarding the renaming of the SeverLink Demo page. It seems like the last obstacle on our way to publishing the demo, hopefully it gets resolved soon!
