Over the past 2 years I've been guest editing a special issue for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on #water & #nutrition in a changing world. I spoke w/ the EIC of JAND Linda Snetselaar about this SI & why #watersecurity is critical to nutrition and health www.youtube.com/watch?v=poZ8...

Water turnover (the gold standard measurement) peaks around 7 liters per day for adults at age 40. Further we show that higher water turnover was associated with better hydration status and healthier kidney function.

Really important thread from one of the best program officers NSF had - if you are wondering about NSF read below

Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

Thanks to the National Science Foundation - Research Experiences for Undergraduates in particular for funding the field school. Those programs are incredibly valuable for providing research and training experiences as well as mentorship that results in real products that help the careers of students

The Epidemic Intelligence Service was incredibly formative for me & 2 of the best years of my career. This is such a travesty and utterly thoughtless. EIS is the best of the best. They are losing those who could go into medicine, industry, etc & instead choose to make less to serve public health

Dr. Tom Frieden@drtomfrieden.bsky.social

The abrupt terminations of more than 1,000 employees, including new Epidemic Intelligence Officers, across CDC are deeply disturbing. For more than 70 years, EIS officers have served on America’s front line as its disease detectives, ready at a moment’s notice to respond to emerging outbreaks.

Apparently all institute directors are being asked to retire - this would set back NIH to the stone age

Alt NIH Bluesky 🧪@altnih4science.bsky.social

We are hearing that there is a meeting of all NIH IC directors happening now. We are also hearing, from several sources, rumors about director and assistant director level removals coming soon. The impact of this wld be enormous. IC directors have all grantmaking authority for each institute. 🧪

I'm that normal tourist at Penn State University taking pictures of their 2017 water tower. You know why it was replaced? "The university needed to replace the old water tower in order to meet regulations for water quality and quantity."

Well-being trajectories of older adults look different in absence of retirement, institutionalized income & social security. For source paper, see: tinyurl.com/3u5cc5nv

#Happiness is often seen as a U-shaped curve: youthful joy, struggles in early adulthood, and a late-life upswing. But this trend doesn’t hold in low-income, nonindustrialized societies. An #anthropology professor explains: https://buff.ly/42EUObE (@mgurven.bsky.social, UC Santa Barbara)
