Well there was a communist option. But the SPD was fighting the KPD too, actively helping the NSDAP, regardless of their actual intentions to the NSDAP. The SDP, by refusing a United Front with the KPD, literally allowed the Nazis into power.

If the Democrats cared whether they won or lost elections, they wouldn't be yelling at the people who didn't vote for them; they'd be courting us. Conclusion: The Democrats do not care whether they win or lose elections.

There's an election coming up in about a month, & every even slightly progressive person hates the party currently in power.
