My credit union is merging with another one, and this is part of the announcement message: "Your accounts and services will remain unchanged 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘰𝘸 as we integrate systems..." Goodie! Now it feels like I need to put a calendar entry for 18mo out that says "check to see if they've altered the deal"

Dear #lazyweb, as a smartphone hopper I'd like to finally pick a 2nd line type app. My aim isn't privacy, just ease of use, to run an (android) app for 1 phone# on voice/SIP and SMS/MMS on a few phones simultaneously. Ideally I could port a # to it. TextNow/Burner/MySudo/other?

Why do the SMS messages from @cvs-pharmacy.bsky.social have to say "PLEASE RESPOND" in all caps about my script refill, which I'm sorry are NOT the highest priority thing? It's so irritating that I always just reply no. I do not need my pharmacy sending me shouty caps while I'm trying to work.

I was ~today years old when I learned you could move the mouse in Steam Big Picture mode by holding down the Xbox/PS button, and moving the right analog stick. And click the mouse buttons with LB/RB. And that it is very functional experience as well! This is a life changing thing.

Good vibes only today! Practicing gratitude that my OG #Framework 13 laptop is now running with the RTC battery fix. I finally got around to hassling them for the replacement part, then getting around to actually soldering it into place!

Awesome video from Tech Altar re: how companies like Microsoft trying to make AI unavoidable in every app, and ruining computing. I'm linking to the Nebula version but it's on YT too. Nebula has so much great stuff, and is only $36 per YEAR when you sign up via a creator. nebula.tv/videos/techa...

Trying to stay positive. I'm so grateful for the 8 years this little guy has been on the planet and in our home. There were plenty of treats and toys on his bday today, the latter of which were quickly abandoned for a nap, then fiercely guarding a nearby water spill #frenchie #dogsofbluesky

This was my third best game of 2024 so I did my bit

Cryptmaster@thecryptmaster.bsky.social

If you've enjoyed Cryptmaster, please consider sharing the news. Despite an IGF award, a 95% Steam rating and a free demo, the game has gone mostly unnoticed by both press and players. It's not just a typing game and there may still be people out there who would enjoy it!

Linux tips and tricks series. Trying a new distro? Skip the 'gunzip' step before writing your exciting new distro's ISO to a thumb drive. Waste of time and space. dd is both powerful & flexible; it assumes stdin when no 'if' arg is passed: zcat linuximg.iso.gz | dd of=/dev/sdblah status=progress

Happy Winter Solstice. We got Boggy a new jacket as a present, but the outside label said L while the inside one said M 😩 So he's in the buff for this #dogsofbluesky as normal

I left Twitter to get away from 'own the libs, elon smart, trump is genius, crypto is great, outrage outrage outrage'. If Bluesky is just going to be the exact opposite echo chamber, I may well be done here also. The Discover tab is troubling.

Incidentally I will *occasionally* mention #crypto here, as there are interesting things happening, notably the current saga of SEC v Richard Heart and $PDAI potentially pegging to $1. Keep in mind, I was similarly been blabbing about Linux to everyone in sight 29 years ago. We're still very early.

PSA to anyone phone shopping for a loved one: as of now I think wireless charging is a REQUIRED feature. This week I was traveling, and a rogue USB-c adapter killed the ports on my laptop AND phone. If not for wireless charging, I'd have been hours from home with no communication ability.

In retrospect, having a laptop failure near Black Friday is probably the best possible time. I've since learned there are now modern laptops worth buying! The Lenovo P14s Gen5 is a nice Ryzen lappy, with SO-DIMM (upgradeable!) memory, and Control is in the CORRECT place (bottom left key only).

It's fun too! I strongly approve.

Hey Bluesky, I don't think I've specifically mentioned it yet, but I put out a cozy indie sci fi game this year called Starstruck Vagabond and it's on sale again for the Steam autumn event. I know Twitter got sick of me banging on about it. store.steampowered.com/app/2448930/...

So I can get thousands of followers here if I just post other people's content? Should I also say only the word 'boom' in my post like we're still on Twitter? Sorry I do not post that frequently, but when I do it'll be my own thoughts and articles.

I really worry that more than 50% of people who are posting pics of their throwback PS5 controller will never take it out of the box. Don't do this to yourself - things were meant to be used! Even if just a little 😉

Man I just love #debian package naming... Ok, so what's the package name for netstat now that it isn't installed by default? Oh that's in net-tools... mkfs.vfat? Oh yeah, dosfstools (no dash) Ok, and the xz package? That's xz-utils lspci? That's in pciutils !! NFS? Obvioulsy it's nfs-common !!! 🤯

I love Qubes OS so much. Having a different VM for all your various tasks (but isolated from each other) is amazing. Also it just feels cool to type 'sudo poweroff' in a terminal, then to go about work in other terminals/browsers running on the same box, then boot that VM up again later as needed.

One thing that disturbs me slightly is my kids are old enough now that they'd follow me on here once they see how cool it is here (my youngest is now 18). And they'd do it under some rando username so I'd never figure it out.

I have a custom domain setup :) The howto is a breeze is you manage any domain, even if it's with a web GUI - bsky.social/about/blog/4... Feels nice, but I am still a big fan of Mastodon, I just feel like this is for more fun personal pics and posts. Here is a pic of Boglin to celebrate #dogs
