AI is recursive computation, not intelligence. Recursion is the only property these engineered systems and humans share. Machines can compute, humans can think. These are not the same, never were and never will be. Therefore the proper name for AI is not SI, but RC — Recursive Computation. 🌱

What we call creativity, is not an innate giftedness some people possess and others lack. Anyone can choose to build that unique, deeply personal and ongoing relationship with uncertainty that constitutes it. 🌱

Creativity is inducing and persisting through uncertainty. Because to discover a new and deeper invariant of reality, you have to create and persist through uncertainty in the perception of an old one. Hence, the Open AI Navier-Stokes proof was not creative, but combinatorial.

Each and every one of us operates on top of a vast network of experientially accumulated predictions. Apart from the baseline constraints imposed by our own existential exposure how we make sense and act beyond that baseline depends on our own personal and unique histories. 🌱

I feel incredibly isolated on bluesky, where are the rebels? the philosophers? the psychologists? the activists? the thinkers? the doers? the artists? the truth seekers? Let's connect, I want to see what you're up to and show you what I'm up to. We may yet shape the world. 🌱 #truth #art #connect

Don’t forget to go play hide and seek with yourself every once in a while. Where’s the thing you know for a fact you just had in your hands a minute ago? As per usual you will find the answer between an unsettling worry about early onset dementia and a self-vindicating mood boost.🌱

We emerged from and are part of the natural processes on this planet. Too long we have cowardly outsourced our fear of existence instead of confronting it. Always running and never questioning? You are part of the problem. Just start, slow down, ask why. 🌱

Fast-forward and upscale this exact cocktail through four centuries—the cartesian split, the explosion of the scientific method and the immense cost of introspection—and you arrive at the exact reality we are forced to deal with today. 🌱

That’s what is happening when we deploy autonomous computation into the world—and that’s how we start to properly allocate accountability for when it inevitably goes wrong. 🌱 #AI #Agentic #AGI #Governance #Safety

So the conventional view on learning is not wrong, it is just incomplete. It describes the surface of learning—the external expectations, the social pressures, the curriculum, the grades. But beneath that surface, a far more fundamental process is at work. 🌱 #Learning #Consciousness #Development

A fun way to integrate the spectrum is to try and map historical figures onto it. For example, one could argue that Nietzsche’s stall was in Stage 4 Top-Down while Kierkegaard’s was in Stage 4 Bottom-Up. I’d personally put Rilke in Stage 5 Bottom-Up and Camus in Stage 5 Top-Down, and so on. 🌱

Nothing constrains perception or limits development more than what your system has already classified as settled. Abstraction as a whole is an interconnected network of stored prior resolutions that either distorts or augments your perception of reality. 🌱 #mind #abstraction #perception
