This is the final story drawn by the late, great Edvin Biuković. You can see where he was unable to finish and his friends chipped his to finish it. This is from an excellent retrospective published in Croatia. The story is incredible too, by Darko Macan.

I am happy to share 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 episode I have been a guest on: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 attronarch.com/podcast-on-t... Four players, and myself, share practices we believe have contributed to our campaign longevity (190+ sessions). #OSR #S&W #OD&D #podcast

As an aside, I had a lot of fun recording the podcast episode and sharing our experience. If you are running a podcast focused on old-school TTRPGs I'd be happy to guest and talk about running open-ended sandbox campaigns grounded in OD&D rules.

Writing up a locale from our long running game. This one is from 2022 and led to many, many sessions. Funnily it was triggered by a random wilderness encounter with a hydra.

Since it will be published in a print-only, con-only zine BEYOND THE BLACK PYRAMID I am trying to be conscious of the space. So instead of having statblocks in every key, there will be a summary table with all monsters instead. HP will be in keys.

Since OD&D scatters the information around, I put all the stats in the table and then provided page number only for the monster description, which is where its special powers are detailed.

Over the years I have found that these small details add a lot to the game. A good set of encounter tables can carry many sessions of play. Well worth the 10 to 20 min investment to think through.

Regarding the BEYOND THE BLACK PYRAMID zine, first issue was distributed at Grell Con in London. Reprint + second issue will be distributed this October at Cauldron Con in Germany. Not sure what the next spot will be, but I'll share when I do.

I love encounter tables. Since I run a sandbox game I always strive to have frequencies for both daytime and nightime, especially if humans & humanoids are involved. When I construct a table I try to think of the underworld ecology.

For example, giant rats are likelier to be encounter by the day, because their predators are not on the hunt. During night they are less frequent because predators are moving about.

Grab it while it's hot! (P.S. it is free, too)

As a side note, in a three hour session with had 7 combats (including two with 30+ combatants), and explored 9 keyed chambers. Such is the awesome speed of OD&D.

Continuing with Margaret St. Clair, one of the authors cited in the DMG's appendix N, I have read The Dolphins of Altair. A psionic dolphin historian collaborates with three humans to flood the world. Trippy read. attronarch.com/reading-the-... #AppendixN #SFF #ScienceFiction #Doomsday

Continuing with St. Clair, another quick read. Psionic dolphin historian collaborates with three humans to flood the world.

Was quite an enjoyable read! Too many thoughts for bsky format so I blogged them instead: attronarch.com/appendix-n-s... #OSR #AppendixN

Just started reading this bad boy from the DMG appendix N. Started off quite strong, have been enjoying it so far.

Can't believe it's been four years already. We've been gaming nearly every week (168 sessions), and no signs of stopping. Players come and go, but the campaign is eternal.

Hear hear!
