I agree that IIT and GNWT are too complex to be useful but newer theories like @ncowan51.bsky.social ’s funneling idea deserves some serious attention (no pun intended)

This is insane! And tracks with some communication I've had from current or recent NSF program officers recently, and nothing they told me gave me hope this is going to improve much anytime soon.

Some advice for authors submitting to journals (a very short thread from an editor at 2 APA journals): 1. Please always suggest reviewers because your action editor probably isn't going to be an expert on the specific topic of your paper, though hopefully they are adjacent at least.

2. When you do suggest reviewers, don't just suggest the most established people doing research on that topic. Instead, suggest younger faculty or post-docs since often they accept the assignment, and as a bonus they often still know how to analyze data etc. ; ) #science #psychology #neuroscience

I thought about writing a commentary but I agreed so much with Anil I didn’t see the point!

Shout out to all the philosophers contributing to the science of consciousness. This interdisciplinary field is one of the best examples of scientists and philosophers working closely together to develop and test theories!

📣 My lab at NYU currently has two open post-doc positions. We are interested in understanding perception, thinking, and hallucinations. We employ a range of cutting-edge techniques in human neuroscience (e.g., 7T fMRI, MEG, iEEG/DES) and computational approaches (e.g., DNN modeling).

I appreciate the possibility of putting to the test whether something doesn't replicate because of 'tacit knowledge', as has sometimes been claimed. OTOH, we're not all going to wear head-mounted cameras (or eye-trackers) while doing science, are we?

The lab is a mysterious place--where some people have "magic hands," and some experiments just won't work. Here's my story about the unspoken knowledge of science, and the struggle to share it. Gift link: nyti.ms/3UccF7Z

Another great study on musical narrative perception by @margulisa.bsky.social

Nature Portfolio@natureportfolio.nature.com

When people listen to music, they often imagine remarkably similar stories. A study in Nature Communications shows these shared imaginings selectively rely on stimulus-specific patterns in a set of modality-general brain regions. go.nature.com/4gKKw0l #Neuroskyence 🧪

A new video emerged which seems to show a surface rupture in Yatsushiro, Japan following the M6.8 earthquake in July! Exact location of the video would be 32°30'04.0"N 130°38'29.9"E. Absolutely wild. Only the second ever video of a surface rupture forming after the 2025 Myanmar video! ⚒️🧪 #geology

Does anyone else wish the OSF changes hadn't been announced right before the Fall semester starts, as if I didn't have enough stressful, uncertainty-inducing things starting to pile up?

Scientist friends, please read the thread & share your thoughts (Doesn’t have to be public, you know how to reach me!) re:blast radius question, we have a survey out right now trying to get a handle on overall impacts, how close labs are to funding cliff & coping strategies

US scientists: Going into fall 26, how are you thinking about things? Following Fall 24 events and a tumultuous spring 25, I remember a convo with a colleague in which we agreed we just needed to wait things out until fall 25 and we'd have some clarity about the landscape (eg for funding). /1
