USAID is an incredible brand and source of soft power. Killing it off would be a disaster for US foreign policy and for millions of the world’s poorest people.

The Census Scientific Advisory Committee, which advises the Census Bureau on research and methodology across various Census programs and activities, has been terminated as of 2/28/25. This is another blow against federal data collection.

The best Christmas present I received as kid was GeoSafari. I loved it so much. I would love to get my kids one but can't find something similar. Did anyone else play with this in the 90s? In addition to being fun, I swear it helped me get the best social studies grade in middle school.

I am so excited about this good news about Haiti from @earthspark.bsky.social. Jason (@jkerwin.bsky.social) and I had the pleasure to visit the first microgrid they built in Haiti and were very impressed. #microgrid

We are thrilled to share good news from #Haiti. Many years in the making, six mayors recently signed contracts to bring electricity to their towns. Solar-powered smart electricity grids will soon serve over 28,000 people. #microgrid #determination www.earthsparkinternational.org/blog/we-did-...

The first session I organized is titled "Rising temperatures and flooding: impacts on pain, neurodegenerative diseases, isolation, and overdose deaths". The original session was renamed to better fit the papers I chose. I liked that these papers focused on interesting set of outcomes.

Most of the papers in this session are related to climate, aging, and health. I think this session will be of interest to many who are affiliated with the new NIA funded centers on Climate Change, Aging, and Health.

The second session is: "Fires, fields, and fetal development: exploring the interconnectedness of environmental exposures." This session features research in both developed and developing settings and links environment to health through a range of pathways.

Do you have recommendations for a good organizer for a #PAA2025 flash session titled “Small area estimation of morbidity and mortality trends”? Feel free to self nominate. You must not have organized in the past two years. Organizers also need to have an active PAA membership. #Demography

Panelists from the Population Reference Bureau will describe how to write effectively, avoid common pitfalls in writing for nontechnical readers, identify target audiences, and use communication tools and platforms to share your research. They’ll also provide resources to help you get started.

Happy to share this blog post I wrote with Molly E Brown. #Demography #Sociology

The IPUMS DHS Climate Change and Health Research Hub has just released a new post! Learn about the features of spatial precipitation data that you should consider when adding these data to your population health research. #GlobalHealth #Spatial #GeoSpatial #CHIRPS tech.popdata.org/dhs-research...

Can someone point me to a figure in a journal or website showing age-adjusted COVID-19 cases by year from 2020-2022? Some thing like the first panel in the figure below but instead of cumulative data, I would love to see the figure by year. Thanks.
