After 10 years of trying and one failed studio, my brother and I are officially starting Augurite Games! We are hoping to have a website up and a steam page within the next month Super excited to join BlueSky and meet other indies #indiegames #indiedev

#GameDev gets you into shenanigans, and I love it What do you mean I’m awake at 2am researching 1970s sci fi ships? What do you mean there’s a genre called space surf rock and “Man or Astroman?” is an incredible band? I love it #indies #art #research

Been looking forward to this #FollowFriday! We’re brothers Joel and Micah, and we have been working on a game idea set in the far future Our space shooter will make you question what “the end” means for the universe For now, here’s a screenshot of the final art style! #GameDev #indiedev

I’d love to start a thread for dev knowledge sharing What did you do leading up to your game announcement to increase reach? Did you reach out to TikTokers and journalists? Any other tips for marketing beats? #GameDev #GameMarketing #IndieDev #GameAnnouncement #VideoGames

There are a lot of takes going around right now about the Steam NextFest, so I’d like to provide some perspective that I hope helps people feel more confident in the release of their own game 1/? #GameDev #NextFest #Steam

If you’re feeling down or scared about the nextfest and AI slop stealing your game, please give this thread a read, hope it helps ❤️ #GameDev #IndieDev #NextFest #AI #Slop

Your connections, friends, community, and heck even the name of the game is something only you own There has been a big issue with teams using Microslop hating Copilot and wanting ChatGPT instead Copilot is literally ChatGPT under the hood. People want the brand, they want you 7/?

So, coming back to the top. AI can steal your game, but it can’t make the people in your community or network buy that game instead of yours Focus on marketing, focus on community building, and the AI slop devs will lose interest when they spend more in tokens than they recoup on steam 8/8

Now, it is possible that someone Slopies (TM) your game. I have not heard of this happening except to nonsense games like the needle in a haystack one (educate me if I’m wrong) And it isn’t new, see Dark and Darker or Jump Ship and Void Crew 5/?

What I have seen is someone threatening to copy a game unless the devs pay 200 bucks. This is a cheap scam and can be ignored I bring knowledge from the startup world, where corporate moats are being decimated. The only moat now is distribution. In games, that is you. AI can’t copy that 6/?

Payne Robinson has a great video on this about competing and making games. If you are making a game, that game needs to be: - Niche - Fun - Own a specific sub genre If it doesn’t do those things, it probably won’t make enough money for people to want to copy it anyways 3/?

What about AI slop? We are seeing a market over-correction from a lot of people who are being told by influencers that they can make AI games and make millions This flood of AI slop will only last until people discover that is not the case. Most steam games make no money 4/?

First, take your genre and actually go to the nextfest page and filter on your exact genre of game Mine is roguelike bullet hell third-person shooter (specifically in space) Of the 13 games (not 8000), none of them do what my game does, nor are they in space 2/?

The ships for our upcoming space game are actually modeled in the in-game ship editor This is the latest design, but the ships class and abilities are still a secret for now Players will be able to build their own ships too 🚀 #ScreenshotSaturday #GameDev

You are up to date.
