Austin City Council votes 10-1 to legalize 5-story single-stair apartments, making Austin the largest US city outside of NYC to legalize single-stair! 🎉🎉🎉 Many thanks to all the supporters and to CM Chito Vela for leading this exciting reform! We did it y'all! 🙌

Early voting is open! Go vote now for pro-housing, pro-transit candidates! Plenty of candidates claim to want an affordable, walkable Austin, but our endorsement goes only to candidates who will actually fight to build the homes and transit needed to make it happen!

We loved hosting @nerd4cities.bsky.social in Austin! Check out this great CityNerd video on Austin that came out of that trip:

For Dog’s Head to ever live up to its promise as a dense, vibrant part of the city, it must be served by frequent & reliable transit. Unfortunately, current roadway plans make that impossible. Read more on our blog about AURA's new proposal to fix that: The Dog Door Busway 🧵

On Thursday, July 23rd, City Council will be voting on the Dog's Head TIRZ & project financing plan, which controls how funds raised from Dog's Head will be spent AURA urges councilmembers to amend the financing plan to include the Dog Door Busway & its supporting elements

Love to see Austin inspire building more homes across the country. Let's build a US for everyone!

🚨 LAST CHANCE: survey closes TODAY! 🚨 E Cesar Chavez St could have a new urban trail, protected bike lanes, actual sidewalks, and safer crossings! These changes would be a massive upgrade and need a lot of support, so be sure to fill out the city's survey today:

speakupaustin.orgSafety & Mobility Improvements on Cesar Chavez Street and Red Bluff Road - PublicInputThe City of Austin wants your input on proposed safety and mobility improvements for Cesar Chavez Street and Red Bluff Road. Take the survey by May 11 2026 it takes less than five minutes to complete!

The "luxury" apartments in question would be 4 times more affordable than buying a $1M Rosedale house, and they would provide funding AISD desperately needs to avoid further cuts to our schools. That's not a luxury–it's a necessity.

Building more places to live near transit and parks makes Austin more environmentally-friendly and more beautiful, not less, and the increased affordability makes it possible for more people to enjoy that beauty.

Austin notches another housing victory as the resolution for this set of HOME Improvements passes Council nearly unanimously! Many thanks to @cmkristalaine.bsky.social for leading this item and to all our pro-housing Council Members!

On Thursday, Austin City Council will be taking up a resolution to make several rule fixes for HOME Phase I & II projects * Reduce minimum lot widths * Apply HOME uniformly across the City * Zero out side setbacks where there is space next door * Lower two-unit lot size minimum to 2x one-unit min.

This report shows HOME delivers family housing at half the price of typical builds! That is why this week's HOME Improvements item is so important. We can't give up yet, not until everyone has access to the housing they need. Sign up to support Item 26! cityofaustin.formstack.com/forms/austin...

Austin ISD has a $181M deficit, and plugging that gap requires making the most of every school site sale. Rosedale is the latest must-win. It’s Austin's duty to help AISD net $26M by rezoning for 435 homes. We can’t let anti-apartment opposition force more school cuts. Let AISD build! Read more:

Opposing federal grants for your own constituents is a choice to keep Texas stuck in the past. We need a senator who believes in Texas cities and fights for our future and the transit we sorely need.
