I’m the first author in the Poets & Writers directory that listed my mother language as fluent in, it wasn’t listed, so I asked. And they were kind enough to list it with this denomination. If you read me far from here, probably you’ll think “so what?” — but for me, this feels like a little victory.

Every translation is a book born again. Today is International Translation Day. Thank you to everyone who makes a book speak a language it wasn't written in. Zenòdot is an open catalogue of those books, with every language on equal footing. zenodot.app

A flat on Carrer del Crist. A healer with a self-printed diploma. A curtain that has brushed the heater since 1991. A little reiki, added the way you'd add salt. "Off the Books," out now at The Rumpus.

For #Swordtember2026, I'm doing a venn diagram of some of the things I enjoy the most in life: swords (suprise), languages and travel. Hope you enjoy the trip and don't expect any coherence from it.

L'IVO, properament...

I cannot stop writing about the silence — at the same time I find unbearable the waiting for a response about my novel and my essay. They both talk about the silence. Man, that’s fucked up.

And then, months later, you discover that the tool that you started building because finding books in your own language was difficult, is taught as a resource in some universities. And you smile. And keep building. Because all languages should be treated equally. Zenodot.app

Every figure we publish is verified against the live corpus, dated, and archived in an immutable method note. And no figure is a verdict on a language: counts measure which catalogues are open, and which we have reached. Never what a language's authors have written.

Free, independent, no ads, every language treated alike. That is the reason it exists, not a feature. Search a book in your language: zenodot.app And if you know an open catalogue we are missing —especially for a minoritized language— write to info@zenodot.app.

The world's book infrastructure was built around a handful of publishing languages. Outside that handful, the question turns hard even with a state behind your language. For minoritized ones it usually ends in a silence you cannot tell from a no. We built this to make that answer legible.

Try it: Tirant lo Blanc, one search → 12 languages, 262 editions in Catalan/Valencian, every ISBN ready to hand to a bookseller. With an ISBN, any bookshop or library in the world can order the book for you. That is the whole loop.

Zenòdot is now the largest actively maintained open catalogue of book translations in the world: 65M+ editions with an identified language, in 800+ languages, more than 50 open sources correlated into one canonical catalogue, with a matching engine of its own.

Until this week you had to choose your languages before searching. That was a toll, and we removed it. Now: type any book, get the answer instantly from our own catalogue. Languages are an optional filter: they sort your view, they never hide a translation.
