I watch social competition shows to better understand/gawk at group dynamics. These Wonka: Golden Ticket contestants are constantly bawling like they're on Survivor: Naked and Afraid edition...over jelly bean counting.

I'm sharing some of our common but less TikTok'd concerns, obstacles & #BlackAutisticJoy 🤸🏾‍♀️ from my years of hosting thousands of conversations exclusively with adult-identified autistic community members ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 Today☀️Sun Sept 20th @ 3:40pm ET 💻 Virtual & FREE!

Is this stock dude way too smooth? He's too smooth, isn't he? We are absolutely NOT anywhere near this smooth. Not even close.

LLMs at their finest. Let's keep embedding them in every aspect of life. They're definitely accuracy machines. Definitely.

Desperately need to update the Autastic podcast community recommendations. Taking all suggestions under consideration. Black creators? Indigenous creators? Calling any and all POC podcasters centering autism and/or ADHD as well as co-occuring conditions. Whatchagot?

Whether you're questioning or have known for years, seeking external confirmation that you're #ActuallyAutistic may be on your mind. This is one of Autastic's most popular articles for good reason. Bookmark it. Share it. https://bit.ly/4ueV0tm

This is for Autastic/my work, if that's not clear. Been trying to get an introduction thru UMich/CRJ, Next For Autism, etc. Everyone demands phone use and multiple back and forths which I can't do.

The refreshed autastic.com is live. It's not 100% finished—particularly the Autastic Shop—but the resources are spiffed up and I've added a couple of treats I made for us. Hopefully you can find what you need now 💛🧡💚

It's the middle of the day and just now I realized that it's Autastic's birthday. I launched in 2018 after a couple of years floundering trying to find anyone anywhere who knew how this life feels. Today, I try to reduce that feeling for others. So proud 💪🏽

"Did I used to produce at a high level in my 20s and 30s? Absolutely I did. But I didn’t know then that I was borrowing against future capacity. I was pushing my race car into the red without considering that I was going to need gas around the bend." autasticreframe.subs...

Autistic people, tell me about your experiences accessing equitable financial services of any sort wherever it is that you live. I want to know what it's like for you trying to negotiate basic banking, payments, saving, etc.

I'm an advocate who doesn't make videos or live stream, and can't handle the visual overload of TikTok. I've watched Autastic shrivel since AutisticTwitter was blown up. It's hard. Lives have been changed by my work and now, I'm doing all I can but the world isn't built for slow interaction/ideas.

I'm a huge fan of @annmemmott.bsky.social and her work. Here's her latest on #AutisticElders, a must-read👉🏽

linkedin.com#autisticelders | Ann Memmott | 10 commentsAutistic Grandparents. What we know about them would arguably fit comfortably on the back of a postage stamp, in a very large font. Why? Because we were looking for young white boys with high support needs, for decade after decade. The NHS survey of half of its GPs was an eye opener. Results here: https://lnkd.in/eu62tg-f . I want to look at two figures: The figure of 18-24 yr olds (male). 37,000-ish who don't also have a learning disability. Another 7500-ish who do also have a learning disability. Now, our reminder that autistic people are autistic for life. It's a different brain design, from birth. So, we're going to find that same number all the way up the age ranges, yes? [Adjusted for deaths later in life of course] Nope. By age 65-74, the first 'pensioner years', our figures are less than 800 autistic people without a learning disability, and nearly 500 with a learning disability. So, we've only found 1 in every 35 autistic people in that age group, probably. Many of them likely diagnosed because they also had a learning disability, hence the bigger proportion who have both things. It's a lot worse in the over 75s. Hardly anyone identified. Our GPs, hospitals, communities, etc haven't the slightest idea that 34 out of every 35 older autistic people are unidentified as yet. Which brings us back to autistic grandparents. Perhaps 34 out of every 35 not yet identified. Probably doing a fantastic job as a grandparent, too, and bringing so much to community and family life. That typical autistic integrity, attention to detail, dedication, deep knowledge, checking safety, honesty, etc. On e.g. Google Scholar, nearly a million research papers for the search term 'autistic'. One, for the search term 'autistic grandparent'. And that only mentions it in passing. One. We know nothing about their lives, in research terms. Our autism research industries are a mess, aren't they. #AutisticElders | 10 comments on LinkedIn
