Back in July I bought an Elmoscope II as a birthday present to myself. It’s a 60s/70s Japanese anamorphic projection lens, and with an adapter you can use it to shoot 2x anamorphic. After finally getting the rig together, I took it to the UW Arboretum. 🍂 #photography @uwarboretum.bsky.social

It shares glass with classic Kowa cinema lenses. It’s heavy, bulky, and hard to focus, but it’s beautiful. The video is rendered at 2.35:1 but on a full frame it captures a lot more. #anamorphic

I always learn a lot seeing how artists work in different software. @will.hendrickson on IG shared his Houdini workflow for a scene like this, and I tried recreating it in #Blender. Couldn't quite get it procedural (yet), so it became a manual setup. I'm happy with the result! My #b3d workflow:

Rendered the whole thing out as an EXR sequence, then brought it into Resolve for color grading and sound design. happy to go deeper on any step if useful! I'd be really interested to learn how to make this setup procedural with geo nodes...

Fire/Smoke sim: - at each impact point, duplicate & separate faces off the sphere - setup each impact face as smoke/fire emitter - keyframe the "Flow" on/off based on impact frame and tweaked initial velocity - add one adaptive domain for all sims

Add sparks: - create a spark emitter (half an icosphere) at each impact site - added a particle system timed to emit alongside the smoke/fire - tweak normal volocity, brownian/drag and lifetime for randomization - emissive orange material

Scene Setup: - sphere as the target - cone with a "Track To" constraint at target - add particle system that emits cylindrical object (something laser-ish) - emissive red material - once I was happy with the rate and impacts, baked it

"Even a very limited system would cost hundreds of billions of dollars, would have no meaningful defensive capabilities..." 🎯

There are a lot of free Blender tutorials out there, but @louisdumont.bsky.social is in the top tier of online instructors. I've learned a ton from his Robotic Planet course and can't wait to check this out. 🐸 If you're at all interested in learning Blender this is one to bookmark! #b3d

Since the ceasefire agreement on Oct. 10, 2025, the #GazaStrip is divided by a dangerous, ambiguous and ever-expanding “yellow line” controlled by the Israeli military. One side of the line is under Israeli military control pushing people of #Gaza into the remaining 42 per cent.

1/7 - The New START treaty - last remaining nuclear arms limitation treaty - expired today. Russia and the United States have so far failed to prepare a replacement treaty. At best, the two may agree voluntarily not to exceed the limits for a while.

I’ve been badly neglecting this platform for some time, for a variety of reasons. Thanks to @awarnes.bsky.social for the encouragement to rectify that. From last Friday’s march in Minneapolis, prior to ICE’s murder of Alex Pretti.

Gaza after the ceasefire is defined by the ‘yellow line’ — drawn by Israel, and dividing the strip in two. Our evidence suggests that Israel seeks to make the line permanent, as ‘reconstruction’ plans normalise this new stage of Israel’s occupation: frames.forensic-architecture.org/gaza/ceasefire

I joke because haha vibe work AND the history of labor automation being applied to justify paying the workers subject to it less/treating them poorly is clear and consistent and not up for debate. So I'm also serious.

So good. "To quote the fifty-third president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”"
