Sometimes I even like video games.

The Hundred Line is actually a good showcase of how each author has a "voice" that comes through the text and how jarring it can be when that voice changes the instant one story branch splits and a new author steps in to write. Oh and sometimes the author is just plain WORSE too.

I have seen people wishing for the return of old E3 days for games. Is it just yearning for the days the big five publishers dictated what was the yearly gaming canon deserving recognition and the rest could be blissfully ignored? Gaming just isn't the same anymore with Mr Caffeine...

Lies of P, Sekiro, using a shield... It just comes down to games which it don't feel like shit because you are not completely helpless against some dude spamming infinite attacks with tracking.

Review score granularity comes down to the perception of merit right? Highly granular systems like 100-point scale is only useful if you want to literally make top 100 list of games, so you can use tiny arbitrary differences to find merit somewhere to say this top marks game is morer than this one.

but on the other hand, a flat merit system like how eurogamer did for a while with only 3 major tags and then vague nothing makes all games more equal, do you really need to care what is the order of your top 10 games of the year when all of them are fun and you should play them all?

Clair Obscur is a massive fangame of the entire jrpg genre and it wears that heart proudly on its sleeve, which makes its status as being used as a fandom spearhead against certain jrpg franchises even more funny and tragic.

Redditor comment: "sigh, did they really have to introduce *drama* to a **romance** manga?" You can't be this conflict averse, I have seen the spread of this figurative almost "salt free dieting" among manga readers.

Militant Final Fantasy fandom will never forgive Square Enix for making FFXVI, will they? They are few in number, but smug redditors posting "expy 33 scores! heh, square must feel like fools now!" have an annoyance multiplier to them.

It is good to balance your gaming diet. You binge a heaping helping of some good stuff (Blue Prince), so you gotta make sure never get too comfortable. Take a bite of some real garbage like Somerville. (Both PS Plus Extra games) It will keep your senses honest.

Can I say note-keeping is no longer a cute novelty or is this opinion too rube-ish still? Between Blue Prince and Animal Well, I'm full on painstakingly cataloguing the entire rendered game thanks.

Every time a new FFXIV patch comes out, curiosity gets the better of me and I go check out all the channels how people feel about it and always it is just an avalanche of vomit. Love of the game must be private if all the hate is public.

The wound system is too powerful in MHWilds, but I have no idea how they could rebalance it without ruining how good it feels to nail a good focus strike on a monster. I can just say that any monster who has a conditional free wound baked into its design just folds too easily because of it.

yeah I am comfortable enough to say now that monster hunter stands at a crossroads what to do if it wants to commit to having this kind of main story low rank experience, is that you need to ditch the very idea of low rank and high rank to continue or it will always feel compromised

the pinnacle monster of a region should not be a punching bag that shows up in the story just to get absolutely trashed by a guy wearing bunch of low rank rags and nearest bone for a weapon, the hype is gone and the climax is not it

maybe the pacing of the main story would not feel so sluggish if there were actually more monsters to fight between the low moments and top dogs were not odd filler before you go to the next region and fight the runt of the pack I do love rompopolo tho

after the main story is over, the game is happy to show you all these gen 1 B and C star monsters and they do not really carry high rank on its own. but also the game showed its hand too early and blew it by letting you fight the big ticket apex hunters already in low rank

MonHun Wilds has a lot of things about it you can fight about. Is trying to have a more normal video game structure progress or not? Are you just impatient if you cannot stand some lull moments in the pacing? Should Monster Hunter even have character drama in the first place?

I swear something about Xbox controller LB and RB buttons is destroying my forearms. Especially when I play something that requires me to constantly be pressing them, like souls type games.

Battlefield's funny paradox is that the more sophisticated both the games and settings they take place become, worse the gameplay becomes. "BF needs to be ARMA" NO!! BF NEEDS TO BE FALL GUYS!! You want inaccurate guns, tanks with shit controls and tons of smoke.

What would a good term for kind the cursed workplace "mobility" where a bioware employee finds themselves permanently relocated into another EA studio only then to find out that they are now on duty to forever grind out battlefield games?

I do not know how to feel about Potionomics by Voracious Games. They made a game that is really good at stressing you out, of making you feel every in-game day is precarious and bad decisions can spiral you into going broke. But it is also just more palatable to play on the easy difficulty instead.

and it feels like a personal failing to give up on the classic difficulty since it defeats the mood of the game, but also just like in XCOM, getting a game over on a long playthrough feels sooo bad and I wouldn't stomach the kind of salvaging type reloading trying to backtrack to success requires.

A raidplan is a shared truth. You need to be the first to say it. That means your idea becomes gospel before anyone else. Do not delay, do not hone. The masses are afraid and need answers now. Sac the tanks.

Ranting madman is yelling HEALERS OUT! HEALERS OUT! in the cold. Ignore him. He has no idea what he is talking about. Now healer, bait his pair nuke with a zooted up melee dps and if you happen to get killed, the entire pull is toast.

I like FFXIV raidplans. They are the orchestration of raid solutions, they become the shared text we must follow to succeed. Especially their inadequacies are important. They are after all products of 'men and cause suffering and you can go the extra distance to go MAD if you think you can fix them

I swear Bungie has been trying to reconfigure the pvp side of Destiny 2 into something "better" for the good last 3 years now and I have no idea if it has been working or not. I mean I am never going to touch it ever again, but surely all this effort has managed to attract someone out there? maybe?

It only took me 350 or so pulls to finally clear the chaotic raid. It is such good bad content. It kept me glued to the game for a good while and made me miserable for most of those failed pulls.

There are a small but extremely loud group of people in the FFXIV community that I can only call "healer cranks" and the very idea of engaging with them sincerely is just taxing. I do think their grief is genuine, but they are just so hostile in their discourse about FFXIV healer role.

Destiny 2 storytelling has always been bad, but getting insulted by a two-bit side villain nobody likes over a story voip call happening inside your own skull as their actual body disconnected from said discussion idle poses in a dingy little cell in front of your face is just too much.

I don't got much to add to the new nvidia card discussion other than gpu physical appearance snobbery is wild to me. "Eww AIB models look so ugly" Hey buddy, the monitor has funny diodes emitting video games at your eyes! Look that way! Put a cat in front of the glass panel!

One indie game of 2024 that I wanna champion is Timemelters. While its audiovisuals and narrative can be flimsy at times, Autoexec Games decided to just go wild with the gameplay concept: Action/Trap Defence with time travel. Singleplayer and 2-player coop both.

An uncompromised vision shines through: Enemies kill you in one-hit and the game is not afraid to through multiple objectives in your face that can at first seem very hard to actually solve at the same time. But you learn to think in that 4th dimension: "I'll just bait these guys with my past-self"

Conversations in FFXVI are two stiff mannequins slowly pivoting their heads to each other while making sourly polite observations how much the world sucks, while in FF7 Rebirth you have overanimated cartoon animals dressed in human skins bouncing around while giving an atom of plot in the process.

I do lament a little how Helldivers 2 has lost this sense of friction the game had at launch. Combination of power progression, enemy nerfs, player buffs and new equipment has softened the game up into a comfortable romp, but something in me misses that frustration of 5 Chargers spawning at once.

"Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon" he mutters to himself, as Naoki Yoshida locks in the schedule to release a minor content drop for FFXIV on the Christmas Eve 2024.

You play any game for more than 6 years, you will surely get the Gamer Derangement. It becomes like a home you have no authority over. House you cannot redecorate. You start screaming at the management. You wish you could leave but feel compelled to stay. You become a permanent nuisance at Reddit.

TF2 comic actually nailed the ending so well that gave me heartfelt closure for a game I have not played for years. Cheers and Merry Christmas you mercs...
