In July, I started a bracket 2 budget brew Commander League at my LGS. Season 1 ended with 10 players. Season 2 started last week, & we have 19 and almost as many total games played as last season in total. It's so much fun seeing people getting hype about stupid budget brews and building community.

Only 4 people drafted, but we still had a great game and drafted surprisingly cohesive decks despite only half the packs being opened. I got to play Garth and stress test if the cube would actually support a 5 color deck. It did so surprisingly well. Glarb took it down in the end.

2 of my friends run Heart State Magic, & they're excited for me to bring it to their next event with The Gathering Table in Dublin, OH, Oct 17. Heart State and Gathering Table are both rocking groups for "fems and thems". Their last co-event back in June was one of my favorite events of the year.

My intention for the league was community building and approachable, so it's free entry. Participants with 8+ games over 8 weeks get a free random promo from the LGS's binder of old promos. But the true treasure is the fun and games we had along the way and the community we are building.

It's also started a lot of conversations about intentional deck building at my LGS, and we are seeing a lot of more intentional and less salty pods. Incidentally, a lot of game changers and salty cards are being cut from.bracket 2-3 decks voluntarily.

Even the folks not in the league are getting in on the conversations and building decks more intentionally so they're fun for everyone. The Bracket 4 and CEDH folks are also getting new interest, because people are understanding how those games go and want to try.

Currently, Wilson, Refined Grizzly /Noble Heritage is on a tear through the league. It's pilot has been playing Magic for about a year, & this is one of the first decks she built on her own. She is 9-1. My Niambi Pixie deck is 0-5, and I'm loving it. I'm just here for good times and game actions.

Since the league started, the store has seen a steady uptick in the number of people playing on Commander nights. The community has become much more welcoming and laid back about games. It engaged a ton of our players with the bracket system, and I've heard a lot more pre-game convos.

The restrictions for the league are building so much creativity. - total budget <$100 - bracket 2 - commander must have < 5k decks on EDHrec - commander must fit the season's theme. This season's theme is "Just a Lil Guy" (commander costs 2 mana or less).

Explain your@ Banality is a measure of the cold, hard, mortal world slowly choking the life out of your character in the TTRPG, Changeling: the Dreaming. My only character I've ever played in that system was named Bob, and had a penchant for accidentally acquiring banality.

At 36, I'd lost a job I loved, was in the middle of a year and a half of joblessness (over 700 apps in a year and a half), had a flare up of a spinal condition which made me unable to walk meaningfully, had to move back in with my parents, and was dealing with severe chronic pain.

Due to terrible weather and my spine deciding to forsake me, the only tomfoolery I got into to herald in the new year was eating pizza and watching The Great British Baking show. Now to head to bed before midnight and hope that 2026 is a kinder year.

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. I'm so worried. Like, I'm gonna get rescued, but at what cost?

My mom picked me, my brother, and 3 friends up from school with a bag of Wendy's burgers for opening day of The Fellowship of the Ring. The excitement of hearing Galadriel's opening monologue for the first time still brings a tear to my eye from the residual joy.

Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences? Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.

I can't recommend the Sidekick Pro enough. I use it as my cEDH tournament box, and it holds my double sleeved cEDH deck, tokens, dice, and a life counter and doesnt take up too much bag or table space.
