It's weird having a Laptop with a CD-Drive nowadays, because sometimes you accidentally make it pop open when moving and ask yourself when you last had to use it... Has it been 10 years yet?

My brain's not doing code for SHIT today, playing some of the Gothic remake instead. Sometimes it's time to cool it for a bit. #indiedev #gamedev

Feel you there... Then again, us indies need to do what we can to help each other out :) Well our audience here is mostly other indies, but still a share can't hurt^^ Nice sploooosh!

Poison explosion animation! I enjoy drawing, music, and coding, so I’m always going to just avoid ai because I don’t understand offloading the fun… But it is disheartening trying to gain visibility in the sea of slop. #gamedev #pixelart #solodev #indiedev #indiegame #godot #TheUniverseOfDeath

RT to lend my voice, because... OVER MY DEAD BODY DOES EVEN JUST A SINGLE LINE OF AI CODE END UP IN MY GAME. shouting over.

RT if you don't use AI for coding

Laptop crapped out on me during gamedev time on the train :( Blender on battery power was too much for its poor little heart... (I have another laptop, but this one is dear to me, even if it's weaker) I really hope it's ACTUALLY off and doesn't fry itself in my bag .-. #indiedev #gamedev

Fuck you, bsky you're my notepad now. - Gotta render out the item icons _without_ shadowcatcher - first slot just has a shadowcatcher with invisible icons - Every item icon/figurine is a linked clone in three rotations (rotation is set via driver on the first triplet, so they're all the same)

Then in-engine: - Make icons for the rough weapon types, preferralty one for each armor slot. - Maybe recolor? - Draw the shadow, and the icon/figurine on top. Will I need different shadows for figurines with square/triangular/etc bases? (please not, got no space for that)

Damn you, this looks really cool already! Love the pre-rendered aesthetic :D Also, I feel like lots of time it has to do with the time (of day) you post at, feel like it might be better in the mornings (from the perspective of GMT+1)

I didn't plan to post much in progress videos until a steam page ... but previous post with a raw as chicken look at the game found some attention. I wonder what will happen with this one #gamedev #retro Fun fact - water doesn't use any shaders. It makes it look weird but it is depth buffer based.

Ignore the cut-off shadows, but I kinda wanna go in this direction with the inventory; Items are represented by little figurines. I like the way this is going, but needs a lot more work to actually look good. Would I need an in-universe explanation for this? #indiedev #gamedev

Inventory and trade screen now share their rendering code - I've got a different thing for it in mind, but I don't know if I can pull it off in terms of readability #indiedev #gamedev #vagueposting #cursed_existence

There is personality in code. As much as you can see an artist smile at you through deliberately misplaced lines, you can see a coder's mischievous grin when a UI element bobs and weaves. Code can be art if you let it.

Being quarter-sick is fucking stupid. Not even half sick, just kinda debuffed -.- No proper brain for gamedev or modeling, super annoying.

"you can't avoid ai, it's in everything" *Looks at the 800 something game devs on my starter packs of devs that don't use AI* Yeah I think I'll be okay.

headfallsoff@headfallsoff.com

the "you can't avoid AI, it's in all software now" argument might be true for infrastructure, where we have limited agency over the platforms and systems that make up our society, but is hilariously untrue for video games, a completely optional and easily ignored part of all of our lives

Fuck yeah that's the good shit!

Refactoring my Inventory system. At around 75% done my brain decides to also start on the trading interface. WHY AM I LIKE THIS. (I know why, that was rethorical) Then again, the refactoring helped and trading is progressing pretty quickly :) #indiedev #gamedev #adhd

Feeling a need to cultivate strong opinions on something completely trivial. I think I'm going to begin a crusade against the caps lock key. IT'S A USELESS KEY, WHY IS IT SO BIG AND PROMINENT. PUT CTRL THERE INSTEAD.

There's a fairly large cellar under the coworking i'm working in. It's a bit unsettling, but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

OpenTDD on Android is actually pretty damn playable, I'm impressed :D I think it's finally clicked with me, hell yeah. Been a while since I played anything in... whatever the genre is called^^

Testing the persistant world: If the players leave enemy range, they march towards the town. Rescued npcs will also go to town to help defend. Performance feels fantastic! Doing final tests and reuploading the demo. #gamedev #pixelart #solodev #indiedev #indiegame #godot #TheUniverseOfDeath

Playingt Monster Hunter 3U on the way back from rome, I decided to try and kill the lagiacrus that jumpscares you while doing a collection quest, only to have my love point out to me that you can't even kill it in that quest. At least got a tailcut out of it, fuck you Lagi -.-

Damn, now that pathfinding is working, I've opened up a whole bunch of things I really really want to work on :D I love that part, before I realize how complicated the next step is going to be^^ But tomorrow's a work day, so all I have are 2 20min train rides, not too much... #indiedev #gamedev

No coding session for the second train ride - train's too full :( I can at least think about the problem, but I'm not sure my mental model of the code is 100% accurate at this point... Ah well, maybe inspiration strikes me in between all these tourists^^

Had the day off today, fixed a handful of crashes and mucked around with enemy behaviour. Bit burned out in general, but I'm on a weeklong trip to Rome with my better half, so I'm hoping that'll recharge me a bit^^

Another ride, another bit of (kinda) progress: I knew I was going to have duplicate entities with my approach, so I tried my hand at fixing it in this mornings session. I currently still have increasingly more (of the same) entities following me, so there's still some mistakes to iron out^^

Impressed, but surprised by which things come easier to me nowadays. (socially) Disappointed because the job I never thought I was smart enough for, and worked really hard to get into (programming), has basically been destroyed by AI. I might tell myself to do art instead, which is suffering too^^

Update: I've managed to fix dropped item persistence between screens, now I should plan enemies following you between screens, but I've got a headache... It's okay, that's fine progress for today :) Nothing huge, but something that had been bothering me for a while^^

Today's train rides were productive: Entities that aggro the player, now spawn with a fixed delay at the level entrance the player came in. Now I still need to - make sure they're not lost to the void - they're not duplicated - base the delay on their distance to the player on level exit #indiedev

Yoooo :D

The Dagada’s Story demo is finally here !!! 🎉 🎉 🎉 Explore the village and play through a full level to get a good taste of the overall Dagada’s Story experience And if you enjoy the demo feel free to leave a positive review on Steam. It really helps a lot 💙💛 #indiegame #indiedev #indiegamedev

Every time I try to learn about Blender's Geometry Nodes I feel like I need to drink. Like, not alcohol, but... gasoline, maybe?

Freshly installing Debian 13 while upgrading to a 1td SSD on my work PC and it just casually suggested 49GB of swap??? I think I'll kick the swap partition entirely once I'm done, if I run out of my 64gigs of memory, I'm doing something wrong anyways. (It's DDR4 that was bought before all this shit)

Part of my core gameplay loop: Oh, I need to get new equip! Oh, for that I need a trader! Oh, for that I need NPCs! Oh, need inventories! Oh, for that I need dialogue! (Oh, I needed a dialogue editor too) Oh, for that I need a trading interface! Only the last one missin, now :) #indiedev #gamedev

Oh man, I totally missed this - hell yeah! :D

The demo is live!!! I’d love to hear what everyone has to think! It’s the first 45 minutes of raw game play, but as it’s a roguelike, playtests show up to 2-3 hours! store.steampowered.com/app/4519720/... #gamedev #pixelart #solodev #indiedev #indiegame #godot #TheUniverseOfDeath

Still working on cursed existence! Not happy with how it looks overall, but slowly getting there :) (it's all a bit too simple and clean, even though I do want the town to be nice and tidy, as opposed to the regular dilapidated look fantasy is often going for) #indiedev #gamedev #screenshotsaturday

Did a bit of a post-mortem on my game for the platformer jam #2, it's called dizzy (and needs a different name, because there's a famous DOS-game of that name). Play it if you like, it's very short^^ bananicorn.itch.io/dizzy Because #gamejam, y'know #indiedev #gamedev (rest of alt text follows)

I wanted to post a gif of some gameplay from a gamejam project here, but I'm falling apart trying to write the alt text, ugh. I wanna do it properly, but describing everything is too much right now. How can this be that hard??? Would a half-assed alt-text be better than none?

Bit of a tough read for a fumbling amateur, but 100% worth it! I need to rethink some things...

Oh, you've made a video game? And you want people to play it? Well, let's talk about how to do that better. How, exactly, can you make sure people care about your game and want to tell other people about it? Check it out here: docseuss.medium.com/its-not-enou...
