This industry is cooked

The hiring landscape for senior leaders in tech is interesting these days. I’ve heard that there is little interest in people management skills anymore as companies either want you as a “senior IC” or to help with AI transformation not org leadership Career development is no longer a thing.

Is it just me or are these supply chain attacks becoming more frequent?

Socket@socket.dev

84 TanStack npm package artifacts were compromised in the ongoing Mini Shai-Hulud supply chain attack, adding suspected CI credential-stealing malware. Socket flagged every malicious version within six minutes of publication. Details: socket.dev/blog/tanstac...

If this is true, guess it's time for me starting looking at alternatives...

It appears that Anthropic has removed Claude Code from its $20-a-month pro subscription based on its pricing page. Anyone able to confirm who has a $20 plan? claude.com/pricing

Watching the tech industry unleash unpredictable software into production in the name of AI adoption, then spend twice as much time and money trying to limit the blast radius, proves humans should be investing in our own intelligence before allowing the machines to mimic us.

I met with AI data labelers in Kenya who are organizing their colleagues to fight the brutal working conditions and horrible pay given to the workers at the "bottom of the AI supply chain." They believe the NDAs they've signed are unenforceable so are speaking out: www.404media.co/ai-is-africa...

404media.co'AI Is African Intelligence': The Workers Who Train AI Are Fighting BackKenyan workers are still the underpaid labor behind AI training, moderation, and sex chatbots. The Data Labelers Association is fighting back.

When it comes to AI agents / AI tooling + coding, I hear an awful lot of talk about: Efficiency Iteration speed / PR output rate / lines of codes produced I hear zero mentions about: Quality Customer obsession This will bite back, and it probably already is...

Don’t let influencers fool you, coding with AI (Claude Code / Codex / Gemini) still takes a lot of work. You may be more productive, but expect long hours and many late nights. It’s like creating a 15-minute short using AI. It may look easy, but it often takes weeks of trials to produce that video.

This touches on some observations I’ve been mulling about regarding vibe coding. Executing an idea is now cheaper than ever. But, many people just aren’t going to put up with the effort required to specify how to build things.

How is this sustainable in the long run?

Being an AI wrapper company is brutal. Cursor, last valued at $29.3 billion (Series D) in November 2025, is on red alert. Despite surpassing $2 billion in ARR and doubling its revenue in the three months since its last round, the pressure is mounting.

Introducing chartli 📊 A CLI for rendering charts in your terminal from numeric text data. $ 𝚗𝚙𝚡 𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚕𝚒 I wanted terminal charts with zero setup. No browser, no Python env, no matplotlib. Pipe numbers in, get a chart out. Again built it my coding taste using Command Code.

There’s a lot of tooling being built around getting coding agents to ingest the appropriate context needed for completing tasks. Is there any similar work on getting them to forget stuff that might not be relevant?

I still keep forgetting about the jump from iOS 18 to iOS 26. 😵‍💫

Filippo Valsorda@filippo.abyssdomain.expert

Ah fuck, I didn't realize iOS 18 was not getting security updates on recent devices. I might have to put up with all that gratuitous transparency. At least macOS 15 still does if you click the right boxes.

What would I do in a situation like this? If I were just starting my career, I'd be listening to everything. I'd bet on the future and hedge on the fundamentals. I'd pick the most popular agentic coding tool and go all in. I'd hedge that bet by learning the fundamentals of software development.

Kelsey Hightower@kelseyhightower.com

We are asking developers to do more with less, including less pay. Either we have managed to cut cost without reducing output, or we have increased output, but have very little to show for it. I'm sure there is another narrative around creating new opportunities, but I'm not hearing about those.

Case in point from the article: “Engineers increasingly found themselves coaching colleagues who were “vibe-coding” and finishing partially complete pull requests. This oversight often surfaced informally—in Slack threads or quick desk-side consultations—adding to engineers’ workloads.”
